    • Well, you've highlighted the problem yourself, whatever you decide will carry some risk.   However, I would think the risk of a default judgement & CCJ is to be avoided at all costs and the least worse thing would be to write them a two-line letter with their reference number and your new address.   As usual, any details you can give us on the forum sticky would be useful for the future

      I was in Sainsbury’s today and did scan and shop.
      I arrived in after a busy day at work and immediately got distracted by the clothes.
      I put a few things in my trolley and then did a shop.
      I paid and was about to get into my car when the security guard stopped me and asked me to come back in.
      I did and they took me upstairs.
      I was mortified and said I forgot to scan the clothes and a conditioner, 5 items.
      I know its unacceptable but I was distracted and Initially hadn’t really planned to use scan and shop.
      No excuse.
      I offered to pay for the goods but the manager said it was too late.
      He looked at the CCTV and because I didn’t try to scan the items he was phoning the police.
      The cost of the items was about £40.
      I was crying at this point and told them I was a nurse, just coming from work and I could get struck off.
      They rang the police anyway and they came and issued me with a community resolution notice, which goes off my record in a year.
      I feel terrible. I have to declare this to my employer and NMC.
      They kept me in a room on my own with 4 staff and have banned me from all stores.
      The police said if I didn’t do the community order I would go to court and they would refer me to the PPS.
      I’m so stressed,
      can u appeal this or should I just accept it?

A quick PPI question

Some years ago Lloyds TSB gave me a £35,000 personal loan.

After a number of years the company I worked for did not have work for me anymore (or not enough anyway to begin with).

As I made good money there I was still able to keep paying my loan but it eventually defaulted.


I am paying it off bit by bit now, however, it was not until later I realised that I also paid for PPI included in what I paid back for the loan.


I was under the impression that a PPI was meant to be for purposes like my situation, ie. if you can't work anymore or see your income reduced significally or lose it altogether, the PPI was meant to pay it off.


Am I right or wrong, and is there anything that can be done to get rid off paying off the loan, because of the PPI I took out and paid for?

Howdy Frankie.

If you were paid off, or made redundant then the PPI on the loan presumably should have kicked in and started making payments for you. You have to ask them to do this though, you have to make a claim on the Insurance before it will start.

I would phone up the PPI people and explain your circumstances and see what they say.


If you phone them and get nowhere then send off a Subject Access Request (template here : http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/payment-protection-insurance-ppi/118145-sar-ppi.html).

Wait for the results of this and see exactly what the terms of the PPI are.


The PPI would probably only repay the loan for a fixed amount of time, so you should see what that time is when you get the SAR returned.

You've probably got 2 options here, you could go after the PPI and reclaim because they havn't been paying off the loan (but that may be hard if you didn't tell them that you were unemployed), or you could probably reclaim the payments you made into the PPI (whichever is greater really!).


You really need to know exactly how much you have paid into the PPI, and exactly how much it would have covered you for in the event of unemployment, and the only way to do that really is via the SAR mentioned above. Having sent a SAR will always help you anyway, as it proves to them that you know what your doing, and im sure the Ombundsman looks on it as a good thing too if your complaint gets that far.
