This is my first post and although I've searched previous threads, I've not found a match, so apologies in advance if I am duplicating!

I received a letter from a company I'd not heard of; a simple 1 page letter titled 'statement of account'

I immediately called them to establish why they wrote to me and for what reason. They seemed nice enough and explained that they had bought a debt from Barclaycard dating back to a default on the 23/01/2003. I have/had no knowledge of this ever going wrong, but to be honest I struggle to remember last week, let alone 6 years ago. This was a time when I moved house and was overseas for a couple of years, but my post had a redirection for that time to my mothers UK address, and I never recall and nasty letters or demands....

This letter was addressed to this address. I regularly look at my credit report and have an ongoing subscription with experien, so this came as a shock. If this is a true debt then I can look to pay it, although at the moment, isn't the best time by any stretch of the imagination.

My question before contacting Barclaycard is that although they apparantly defaulted this agreement on the 23/01/2003, they never put this to my credit file and now being soo far down the line, am I legally obliged to pay this? This third party company bought the debt on the date of default and tonight was the first time I spoke to them.

any suggestions or facts would be appreciated as I am worried and have worked hard to keep my credit score up there!!!

thanks in advance

Thank you for the prompt reply.

I hadn't heard of this 'Statute Barred' term before and have now found a template which will be perfect and look forward to a prompt acknowledgement with closure.

Thanks Again, :)
