    • It is a stupid reason but I really didn't knew I was going against the law. I might add that being a student in London is expensive and since my parents cant help me anymore with the maintenance and having only a part time job led me take this action, but there are not any other reasons.
    • might be wise to introduce some reason upon WHY you used the card, not just repeatedly state it might kill you visa repeatedly??
    • Thanks for your help.   I have just seen this on a facebook thread     We saw our hotel was not opening so we rang Jet2.com who immediately offered another hotel and gave us a refund the lady was very helpful and polite   When I rang Jet2 they said they couldn't help   At this point  I really would like them to offer us a refund. We do have the funds to pay the balance, but this may be a risk surely as we don't use credit cards. Or are they bound to refund if we refuse to change? Would you advise me to email CEO again and forward the email I have from the accommodation?   This was one of the replies I received:   Hi Pauline,   Thanks for your email   I’m sorry you’re unhappy with our position, but must respectfully confirm this remains unchanged. This position is in line with the package travel regulations.   If your flight had been cancelled and we were unable to provide an alternative flight within 12 hours of the original flight time you would be offered a refund, but we would aim to provide a suitable alternative to ensure the holiday goes ahead, meaning there is some flexibility in the way we can provide this written into the legislation.   Similarly if we are able to provide an alternative hotel which meets certain criteria based on the hotel originally booked, we do not offer a refund as we have been able to provide an equivalent package.   The options would be to accept the alternative hotel, or amend with no administration fees. Please note, if this options is chosen you would need to pay the difference if the cost of the new booking uis higher, and of course if the cost is lower we would refund this for you.   We have suspended our award-winning flights and holidays until the 15th July, and our last flights to the UK before this suspension departed on the 21st March, which created a lot of unprecedented demand, causing prices to fluctuate much more than normal. This system reacts automatically according to demand and availability.   I hope we’ll be able to welcome you on board soon.   Kind regards,   Benjamin Addison Customer Service Escalations Executive   and the last one I received   Hi Pauline,   Thanks for your further email to Steve Heapy, the CEO of Jet2holidays; I’ve been asked to respond on his behalf.   While I’m sorry you’re disappointed, and certainly appreciate your frustrations and personal circumstances, I must respectully advise our position will not change.   You’ve reached the end of our internal complaints process, and if you’re unhappy I would recommend speaking to ABTA at www.abta.com. This would be the correct next step if you wish to take this further as our membership means you have access to their Alternative Dispute Resolution process.   Thanks again for contacting Jet2holidays.   Kind regards,
    • if this is the same as yours  it states exactly who has to do what and when..   dx
    • Hello everyone, I managed to write a letter but since I am not very good to write such a letter in English I took parts from other letters published in this forum.  I am posting it but if it is not right please tell me and I will try to write another one. Thank You.   Dear Sir, I write regarding the letter that I have received from you and concerning the occasion on when I was reported for travelling on your bus service on 17th January 2020 in Pembridge Road/ Kensington Park Road using another person not transferable zip card.   I apologise profusely for my actions in this case. I pride myself on my integrity and honesty and I feel shameful for my moment of very poor judgement. As an international student under Tier 4 Visa conditions if this matter were to escalate further into court, it would lead to severe penalty from Home Office in my case, thus a criminal conviction would be devastating and I am afraid I will lose the right to remain further in the country.   As said above I am an international student. I have been in England less than a year and ignorantly I did not know the severity of such actions. This does not want to be an excuse for my offence, since I immediately understood how wrong I was, it only wants to be an explanation of  what let me take such a foolish decision of using someone else’s zip card.   I am extremely sorry for what may appear to you to have been an attempt to avoid my liability, but I must stress that this was not intentional. I wish to apologise to the member of staff concerned and to TFL, I am just so sorry for my actions and the inconvenience caused to all involved. I am happy to make immediate payment of the unpaid fare and all the reasonable costs that my actions have caused and avoid a criminal record thereby allowing me to protect my good name.   I have never been in trouble with the law in the past and I am very sorry that my ignorance has led to this situation now. I sincerely hope that you will accept my offer. I am now fully aware of the rules relating to the TFL freedom pass and tickets and can assure you that I will always ensure to hold a valid ticket of my own on any future journeys.   I would appreciate your consideration and I sincerely hope that you can show some leniency in this matter.

    • Hi,
I was in Sainsbury’s today and did scan and shop.
I arrived in after a busy day at work and immediately got distracted by the clothes.

I put a few things in my trolley and then did a shop.
I paid and was about to get into my car when the security guard stopped me and asked me to come back in.

I did and they took me upstairs.
I was mortified and said I forgot to scan the clothes and a conditioner, 5 items.
I know its unacceptable but I was distracted and Initially hadn’t really planned to use scan and shop.

      No excuse.
I offered to pay for the goods but the manager said it was too late.
He looked at the CCTV and because I didn’t try to scan the items he was phoning the police.

The cost of the items was about £40.
I was crying at this point and told them I was a nurse, just coming from work and I could get struck off.

They rang the police anyway and they came and issued me with a community resolution notice, which goes off my record in a year.
I feel terrible. I have to declare this to my employer and NMC.

They kept me in a room on my own with 4 staff and have banned me from all stores.
The police said if I didn’t do the community order I would go to court and they would refer me to the PPS.

      I’m so stressed,
can u appeal this or should I just accept it?

      Thanks for reading

Hi Slick,

Welcome, this place and the people here will help you with this and many more debt related issues.

Others with more knowledge will no doubt add but for starters. You may have done some or all of this and if so apologies:

- from own experience worth reading the card again. I got one from the Halifax carefully worded to look like a doorstep visit but in fact designed to make me phone them (which I did not)

- Need to send them, first class recorded, the letter from this site relating to door step visits (basically they have no legal right to do this without proper court process)

- Similar, if not already letter confirming you will only accept contact in writing in relation to the matter

- If you the debt is yours and and you wish to repay then send repayment proposals based on what you can realistically afford (this will not be what they tell you!)

- If the debt is not yours or you wish to challenge any aspect then keep posting and the good people of CAG will help you all the way

Hopefully a small help, as I say more specific advice will probably be forthcoming soon.... hang on in there :-)

Print a copy of the letter to hand to him if he turns up.

Do not confirm who you are or enter into conversation with him. Hand him the letter, then close the door.

If he persists, call the police ( not 999 )

Ask him (or her?) politely to leave, advise you are corresponding with their client. Probably worth giving a copy of the letter you have posted (if he/she is nice). If they do not behave then advise they are trespassing and you will call the police - hopefully not necessary but if needed fight fire with fire and all that!

Not sure how to view these doorstep threats - I have seen many posts where the threat does not materilise but equally some stories where folks have been visited and things not gone so well (in terms of the hassle, they all seem to bog off when told!)

I think I may well get one or two of these folks knocking on my door quite soon and the above is kind of what I have in my head would be the best course but if anybody can add to it then all the better ;)

Subbing! Hi I used to panic when I got threats like this. That's all they are Threats. Very rarely do door steppers appear - its just part of the mind games played by these plonkers. Now I just laugh whenever I get sent such a letter. If they do appear they have no right of entry to your property. Only Royal Mail do under their royal charter. You can tell them to take a hike- DCA's have no power to take money from you - only a court order can do that. DCA's cannot send in bailiffs only a court can do that and that is if you default on the CCJ issused by the court. IF a door stepper does appear tell them to FOXTROT OSCAR or they are causing a breach of the peace if they insist on banging on your door and shouting at you. Call the local police (non emergency.) tell them a breach of the peace is in progress. Have a mobile phone with camera to record the person and take a picture of them/ their car they will soon get the message. Failing that do you have a large son/OH /friend or even a large dog is quirte effective. train it to go for doorsteppers on command.

Vint - you (and many others) who have been here for a while are showing me the way! I have been (and at times still am) at my wits end but the good advice here (combined with genuine desire to sort out my own debt mountain which whilst huge is not the equivelant of the GDP of the entire country as some of them would have me believe!) I think I will get there (before I retire!!)

I am (a little hesitantly but on a steep learning curve) signed up for the long haul here - will chip in and try to help whenever I can :D

mjc,

There is plenty of advice and help on the Forum, but most imortantly, experience from long serving members.

As you predict, it will be a long hall, but you just have to stick with it.

I have had 2 lovely picture cards from one OC. Nobody ever turned up.

One company did send an agent twice while I was out. I sent them the letter that I posted earlier, quoting the callers name and number, advising them that I WILL CALL THE POLICE TO THE TRESSPASS. So far nothing more for 3 weeks.

They do not have the right to visit you, no matter what they might say. Ask them to leave, giving them a copy of the letter. If they do not go, call the police. They will attend.

They should also not discuss the situation with you until they confirm who you are. ( Breach of Data Protection Act ). If you do not confirm who you are, they cannot discuss with you.

We all would find it embarrasing to have someone turn up on our doorstep, so best to ram the letters home before they do.

Vint

LOL you can borrow my German Shepherd Pup. She is 7 months old and scares the hell out of anyone who knocks at my door. When someone knocks at the door she stands at the window and stares at the visitor. Quite a few salesmen have retreated just by seeing her in the window.

I plan to put a sign up this week that will say "Salesmen, Jehovahs Witnesses and Debt Collectors Welcome. Dog food is very expensive."

Slick244.. i would also complain about debt collection practices to your local Trading Standards and the OFT. And any futures letters to DCAs you could include the following sentence:

" I suggest you take OFT debt collection guidance more seriously after the recent action taken against other unprofessional DCAs, namely, 1st Credit and Mackenzie Hall, as the OFT are cracking down on unfair and misleading debt collection practices and your organisation could be next."

:!: -Any advise I give is based purely on my own experience. It should not be solely relied upon as I am NOT a legal expert and any major decisions you make should not be based on my opinion alone -

German Shepherds are lovely dogs. Mine is really soft but only my friends and family know that.

As for Jehovahs Witnesses my dad has a fab way of getting rid of them. When they come to the door and say that they are Jehovahs Witnesses he just replies that he didn't see the accident LOL. They think he is a madman and they have never called again.
