Hello, i was wondering if you could help.

I had a phone call this morning from Lowell Financial asking about a 'Private Business Matter' (This is after I had search from them on my Credit Record). The are asking me to pay £1100 for a Natwest account from 2006 that I have no Idea about. The said it was from my Parents address and gave me an address which is complete (Edit)! I have never heard of that address ans I told the lady that.

She told me they would "pass my details on to their fraud deptarment and they will deal with it accordingly". I then asked her to send me a copy of the orignal agreement for me to look at and she told me "Of course but It will take a couple of weeks"

Have I done right and what can I do next?

They are phishing, they'll be contacting everyone with the same/similar name trying to trace another victim.

Send them this; http://www.consumerforums.com/resources/templates-library/86-debt-collectors/586-legal-notice-issued-under-section-10-of-the-data-protection-act-1980 although you'll have to edit it to suit.

Thank you for the prompt reply.

Should I wait to see what they come back with before sending this letter?

Thanks

You could do, but you should also make sure that the search is removed from your credit file as they had no right to do it unless it is your debt. Any problems from either them or Equifax (or whoever the CRA is) make a complaint to the ICO https://www.ico.gov.uk/Global/contact_us.aspx
