If you have not made a payment or written admission of the debt for a clear period of six years it will be Statute Barred.

Have you paid the account in full or is there still some owing on it?

Either way, if 6 years have past without you paying into the account or acknowledging it, it's statute barred and they will have to cease all collection activities once you tell them.

write a letter to equifax and explain the circumstances with a copy to the creditor telling him that his enquiries are causing your credit rating to be affected and you may sue for damages if he does not stop
