Shamone,

I have sent my application for my bank charges reclaim under hardship and received a reply today asking me to "provide further information as to the date when I started to experience difficulties and what has caused this situation"

There is a "statement of means form" enclosed for me to fill out.

I am a little confused as I have read a few threads where people have been turned down due to the charges been occured before the hardship began.

I am living with my GF and 1 year old son, I am on ESA as of June 4th (was previously on JSA contribution based since Novemer 2008 and my Gf has just began a part time job.

any help would be much appreciated

thanx

When did you incur the charges ? You will probably be looking at a possibility of charges back to November 08 as Nationwide are quite sticklery on this one.

Okay. Well I would suspect nationwide will say no as they weren't incurred nor contributed to your period of hardship however I would still complete the income Expenditure forms and send evidence of arrears and see how you go, and a covering letter explaining your circumstances in full.

On income it should be joint income since he contributes towards the bills.

Money Advice Trust - Welcome to the Common Financial Statement

The above links you to a common financial statement. The form you have maybe similar. There is a guide on the link and it should help with filling it in.

yes but as you say they take into account the fact the charges happend before I was in hardship - therefore on the same grounds I argue that they also happend before I had a partners income lol

i cannot make out which form i need, they all seem like business ones

ps, I'm the male lol

Under hardship they will only refund during the period hardship occurred. However, if your partner pays bills with you now then her income is included since she may have helped/is helping pay off priority debt arrears(mortgage/rent, utilities, council tax).

It's up to you what you want to do, but they may ask for more evidence if you don't or may reject the claim.

Whether you are on benefits or not is not necessarily financial hardship. look fill the form in whatever way you want and see what they say. ok?

That is pretty standard from Nationwide. The non priority debts bit should be easy for you ie credit cards, loans, store cards.

The other bit is how you did not have the funds to cover your outgoings, ie loss of job, separation from partner, loss of hours. Nationwide are the best of a bad lot in all honesty. They usually will payout during the period of financial hardship occurred.

Does that make sense?

well Nationwide reply is to turn me down as i have only been in hardship for a few months,.

they say that " i was getting paid into this account until dec 2006, i continued to use the account until april 2007 when the lasdt direct debit was called for. Charges were pre-notified to you as they occured and this provided opportunity fot you to deal with the situation. In spite of this charges were incurred up to Jan 2008 and you failed to contact us about the account for the first time until June 2008.

Any ideas?

Yes they have said no to financial hardship and I can see the logic they have used.
