Couldn't find an existing thread with regards to debt transfers so appologies to site management if there is one already.

Does anybody know anything about companies buying perople debts of them. Apparently there is a company out there who will purchase your debt of you (unsecured pre April 07).

A mate of mine who is a mortgage broker has done it with a loan he had. He has a contact from the company who have "legally purchased the debt from him for £1". He was given template letters to send the all the credit reference agencies, and has receive a response from one within 3 weeks stating that the said loan does not show up on their credit report anymore.

The company charge £250/£350 up front plus 10% of the outstanding balance to transfer the debt over to themselves. The whole process took 3 weeks.

Does anybody else know anything about this?

Forget it! It is NOT POSSIBLE.

Your creditors will still chase YOU for payments, regardless of these [problem] companies. What's more, you don't get your deposit back.
