Hello,

I desperately need help!

I took out a payday loan with WONGA for £750 in Jan with the loan being due in FEB of this year! I could not afford the repayment in one go at that time but managed to speak to a helpful agent in late FEB who gave me the bank details for Wonga - I have been depositing a weekly sum into the accounts of Wonga which now totals £390 as of Friday.

However, on Friday, I received two mobiles calls from an unknown number - I didn't answer - it was JBW group concerning my debt to Wonga.

On Saturday, I received a red letter from JBW GRoup for the debt listing a balance of £1,881.06!

Now, at 6am this morning, I awoke to banging on the windows from an agent of JBW demanding I open the door!! I told him through the letter box I was a minor and he had to leave!

What do I do now? How can Wonga pass on this debt with no warning to me and for such a large amount?

Any help appreciated! Thanks

That is totally against OFT guidelines and verges on harrassment anyway.

I would make an immediate complaint to:

Your local Trading Standards.

Copy that to The Office of Fair Trading.

Report the matter to your local police station.

Make a formal written complaint to JBW and request a copy of their complaints policy.

Debt collects have no automatic right to call on you at any time of day let alone at that time. If they show up again, tell them to get of your property or you will call the police as, once you have told them to go, they are trespassing.

Is it correct that you are a minor?

Bank Fodder,

I'm not a minor but my friend told me to not open the door and tell them through the letter box that I'm a minor to get rid of them. I told him and he kept banging on the door and shoved his ID through the letter box - I slammed it shut but now I'm scared to go out in case they pick my lock while I'm not home or do something drastic like take the door off the hinges!

Hi,

You have no need to say you are a minor, just tell them that they have 10 seonds to get off your property or you will call the police. They have no rights to come to your door and don't worry about them attempting to gain access to your property, they wouldn't dare as that's classed as breaking and entering, a criminal offence.

As advised earlier, report them.

wow!! no wonder its jumped up to nearly 2 grand, does anyone know if its subject to cca?

Must be but an online application.

Wonder what the average judge would make of it if a POC was issued.

Does anyone know if I should still continue to deposit money in Wonga's account or should I stop seeing as they have passed on the debt to JBW Group? I'm on my way to the police right now as the neighbours told me they were disturbed by the agent as well.

this has to be a conflict of interest, big time

a baliff company doing collections on civil debt

it seems they are passing the civil debt cases to there normal baliffs

think about it

bank on the door saying you owe xyz to say wonga

you say in dispute, they then say they will take your goods and flash a legit baliff badge

if you knew no difference, it would scare the hell out of some people, let alone some fictiouse collection charge on top

this cant be right

It might be worth ringing JBW (although we normally advise not to) to inform them that you find their behaviour unacceptable & what you will be doing about it etc...

Be firm if you do & do not let them bully you into payment.

Insist the police do something after all as tax payers WE PAY them to protect us from this harrasment the same goes for the oft and trading standards. The time has come for robuts action and not just tea and scones and a cosy chat, a few £50.000 fines and licences revocations would soon get the message across

Well I just came from the police station - made my report but it is unenforceable unless a) actual bodily harm is done or b) they enter by undue force......... I've got to possibly endure many more visits just to get them off my back!!

I've made my complaint to Trading Standards / Consumer Direct verbally and will send off a letter momentarily.

The CSA is also getting a letter about JBW's tactics ........

I usually pay £18.75 on Fridays into Wonga's account - but should I continue to pay this?

Do you have a digital camera with video capability?

Or if you can afford it buy a small cctv camera for around ten pounds from ebay.

When they next knock just start filming them with your camera or point to the cctc camera and tell them all is being recorded. They will back off then because they will need to be nice, you can ask them to leave and if they don't you will have it recorded so they probably will go.

You can even put a fake cctv camera up as long as you mention they are being recorded they will leave you alone rather than get heavy handed.

As usual the cops have told the victim a load of carp - no bodily harm needs to be done for there to have been an offence committed - You only have to be put in fear for your wellbeing for there have to been an assault

Where do you live It's not West London is it cos if it is the cops there act like debt collectors & will assist the DCA I understand there are already a number of complaints with the IPCC on this very matter
