Hi I am part of a disabled group and we have found that the quicker the response the more likely a flat refusal. The longest I have know someone to receive a positive result was over 11 months though this did include a refusal and a tribunal.

Their letter to you will normally advise not to contact them for the 11 weeks that they say the decision will take them to arrive at.

However if your circumstances are extreme or the lack of a decision is causing you [financial] difficulties then a phone call to them will sometimes find a sympathetic ear and they will update you on the progress of your claim or even try to hasten it through if your circumstances warrant it.

Should the decision go against you then you can either go to appeal [not as difficult as it appears] or ask them to look at your claim again if you think that they have arrived at the wrong decision based on the information that you have given them.
