Confused.COM does a Credit Search - AGP

I have just made an audit of my Experian Credit file and was shocked to see that AGP Admiral Bell Diamond Elephant had searched my credit file.

I had not contacted this firm but my details must have been passed to them after I had searched on Confused.Com for Car Insurance!!!

 

Not on is it but apparently this is happening to many...EEK

Have a quick look at your credit file. does it show as an unrecorded enqiry?.

If so then they should only be able to see your current address details and not the whole of your file, this is for verification of your address details only.

Can someone in the know please clarify this for me. If you use a comparison website does this mean that any company listed with them can then access your credit file? The link in post 3 implies that if you apply for motor insurance any company listed on that site, even one that doesn't supply the product can do so.

I must confess ive never used a price comparison site, so don't know what their T&Cs are, However I would imagine that the price comparison site can not accsess account or other info on your credit file or share it without you express permission.

 

As I understand it, the only info they should have accsess to is your age and address details and should show as an unrecorded enquiry.

I had the same happen to me.

 

I contacted experian and asked them to query it for me. They wrote back to me advising i write to a certain address i did and the marker was removed. I phoned AA for a home content insurance quote.

I have just checked my experian report after getting turned down for a loan despite an excellent credit history. AGP via confused.com have searched my file 29 times!!

I am told I will have to send a NOC to all three credit ref agencies!! Why should I have to do this when I asked for an insurance quote for a car? instead they have wrecked my credit history for 6 months, never ever go through a comparison web site is all I can say!

Do not get an insurance quote through confused.com as they allow all insurance companies (that yoyu may not even have heard of) to do a credit search which destroys any chance you may have had of getting a morthgage or credit!

If you get qoutes through comparison sites for insurance of any sort you should expect them to

check on identity and Gain and CFAS entries and CCJ's especially if you request terms for monthly payments

the more you access the companies sites the more searches titled insurance quotations you will get,

they HAVE NO IMPACT on credit scores which are not seen by lenders anyway.who everyou have applied to for credit will use their own in house evaluation on your credit worthiness base on the credit flle and their own process the score irrelevant.

Yes I do expect them to check my address, no claims, driving record and so on, however, not to allow 29 credit searches. THIS DOES AFFECT MY CREDIT SCORE 100% due to the number of searches my score dropped from 989 to 311 which is VERY GOOD to "EXTREMELY POOR" bottom 11% in the UK. My credit score would have allowed me a mortgage until I got a quote through confused.com, I have mailed them asking who I should start litigation against for destroying my financial credibilty of which I am very very proud (or was until it was ruined).

Those searches wont affect your credit, they are just checks. you arent applying for credit. if you get rejected it'll be because your balance to limit ratio is too high.

ID and Qutation searches by insurance companies have no impact on credit rating, the

potential lenders DO NOT see your credit score, it is for your guidance only.

Every year when I renew insurances I get checks it has made no difference at all.

Not alway true

If the Insurance is using a credit provider to pay your premium up front and you are repaying the provider, a cds loan

section 12 of the act then the search will be for credit purpopses and leave a footprint on your file. It is as wel to dheck first.

The reference is to quotations for insurance prior to application not an application to pay by instalments.
