Sorry about the delay in replying My Son had given some of the documentation to His Friends Mother to see if it matched Her paperwork. Any way my Son and His 2 Friends were caught shoplifting in Debenhams, they were given an £80 Fixed Penalty notice however shortly after they received a demand from R.L.P for £297.50 reduced to £260 if they paid up promptly EACH!! Now I don't condone their actions and my son was further punished by my Wife and I, However how RLP justify a fee for £780 is beyond Me and is an extortionate amount in my opinion! After We received the 1st demand we received another one for £110 We phoned RLP to pay this amount but were told that the figure didn't match theirs and they would have to call us back, We are still waiting for that call (Unfortunately My Sons friends Mother has lost our letter demanding the £110) anyway after we received that demand I discovered this site and would value any advice that you can give please? As I replied above I have contacted the Consumer credit authorities and they confirm that at present RLP do not hold a consumer credit licence although their application is pending,I will try to upload the 2 letters I hve from RLP.

Let me get this right........you received a first demand for £297.50, accepting £260 if prompt payment, then another for £110?? Does that mean you are liable for both?? Does that not amount to blackmail??.....numerous demands..........when could it stop??

Hold the phone here- the boys got an £80 fixed penalty notice. Isn't that the end of it? How come they then have to pay a further £297? If the Police/court thought it was appropriate surely they would have charged them further at that point?

I cannot see how they are liable for further costs at this stage as surely if they are guilty of anything it must be for actual losses incurred and they should have been established at the time of the fixed penalty. Assuming they weren't mentioned by the Police I'd say its pretty hard to chase them for these funds now.

Taking another point of view, let's suppose they are liable, surely they can plead poverty and offer a paltry repayment schedule of say £5/month, or whatever seems appropriately low.

Personally I still say they can whistle for it as RLP's claim should have been discussed at the time of the police involvement.

To be honest I think RLP cocked up when they sent the demand for £110 as my sons friends parents paid that rather than pay the £260.00 the other boys parents paid the full £260.00 (there was my Son and His 2 friends caught shoplifting) I tried contacting Trading Standards in Nottingham Today but you get put through to your local branch, I explained about RLP not having a consumer credit licence the Chap told Me to contact the Citizen advice bureau and gave Me a reference number. I would like to post up the copies of the letters my Son received from RLP but not being computer literate I am having a little difficulty!

Incidentally I checked again and RLP's application for a C.C licence is still pending.

Hi All I think sufficient time has elapsed for me to conclude what happened to me in respect of the TLP saga!

I phoned RLP and spoke to a lady who said I would have to pay up, I asked about their credit license and was told that was a different department so I replied 'Well pass the phone over then because the other department is on the other side of your desk' She replied it wasn't so I replied 'it doesn't matter all I want is your consumer credit number' She left Me on the line for a minute or two and came back and said the 'other department' would be in touch' Well I haven't heard another word to this Day!

Thanks firstly for this website and secondly to all the members who provided invaluable advice!

I noticed they have a new website, and again mention ACPO,but say these agreements are no longer in place.

They are extremely versed at mentioning the word Police, yet we have no evidence that RLP have the support and backing of every Police force in the UK or inded a good proportion of them.

Indeed we are not aware of any current endorsement or co operation from ACPO.

If I am wrong perhaps RLP can show me the evidence.
