Hi

Just wondering if anyone on here believes they have been contacted by debt collectors after they have viewed details of them from social networking sites, ie: facebook, friends re-united etc?

I looked up my name in google and realised that details such my date of birth, town I live in, schools I went to, places of work I have been employed at etc, were visible for all to see!

I've since updated my profiles on these sites not to include this info.

Is this just being paranoid?

Don't worry too much - but the sites you mention have become a source for companies who specialise in tracing.

It's amazing how easy it is to track people down just from personal information they give voluntarily on those sites, and the key word is 'voluntarily'. Placing such stuff in full public view must, by default, remove any notion anyone may have to personal privacy.

HOIST BY THEIR OWN PETARD.

Blimey it works....:-)

NO you are not being paranoid. Have a read on the Credit Today website where one R*n Bi*well openly boasts about using a social network site to track down a debtor.

DCAs will use any trick legal or otherwise to con people into paying

On another site I belong to we have a strict 'no real names' policy, for very good reasons. Despite this, we occasionally get people looking for old comrades - these threads are usually deleted very quickly.

However, we have recently seen a number of newly-registered posters apparently looking to find people they apparently worked with. One of our members has traced these posts to private investigators who work for DCAs.

So, it's not paranoia; expect DCAs to use any means they can to harvest details from anywhere they find.

Of course armed with the knowledge that DCA tracers scour these sites its could fun baiting them and feeding them with duff information.

Imagine the glee in DCA office if they were to discover I had won the lottery and was living in a Beckham Style mansion set in 100 acres. The ££££££ signs would be flickering before their very eyes.

Imagine the fun therefore when they try to put a charge on your council house
