I currently am faced with a former landlord who is ignoring my phone calls asking for my deposit back (almost £600). Unfortunately I don't want to start sending any letters because I have moved outside the UK on a temporary basis, and if this ends up in a small claims court it would be impractical for me to attend. What is my best option? If I were to leave it until I am back in the country (about a year) would I still have a chance of getting the money back through the legal process?

Claims for such things as deposit return can be made for upto 6 years. Obviously the sooner the better though.
