A biker was somewhat confused when he received a fixed penalty notice from Lambeth Council. It claimed he had been riding in a bus lane in the south of Lambeth when in fact he was crossing Westminster Bridge (in the north) at the time.

The notice stated camera 139 pictured him, but the accompanying photo clearly showed it was camera 159, which is on the bridge he was crossing (and indeed in a bus lane that was permitted for use by bikes).

The cyclist, following demands for payment, contacted the police and accused Lambeth council of attempted fraud, at which point Lambeth admitted to an "admin error".

The above is taken from Private Eye (Eye1238) in their Rotten Boroughs section.

Something to check in future!

admin error ? How can the back office system produce such mixed up rubbish in the first place. This is a legal process and their 'evidence' is obviously 'free form'. How may others paid I wonder ?
