I got a quote from the blind company, which I agreed to and paid half the money in deposit.

After agreeing, I realised that the blind company had tried to screw me. They had quoted (for the same windows) to my mother £300 and me £500 (moreover he had started by saying it was £600 for the same job he had quoted £300 to my mother).

I have tried to cancel the order, even though I will loose my deposit. I am happy to do so as I am annoyed at their behaviour, which I consider to be unethical.

The blind company have said that I cannot cancel the order and they are now threatening to take me to court (to have the blinds fitted)

Does anybody know if they can force me to have the blinds fitted/or if they can force me to pay the balance?

Hello there.

When did you make the order?

It was a couple of months ago. April perhaps.

WHERE did you make the order?

In my front room....is that what you meant?

Thanks :)

(welcome to our forums by the way!)

Thanks

what!!:)

dx

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

I believe Sequenci is referring to where it was made eg. on line, but your Front Room answer made me smile.

OK. To be more specific on the "where" question. It was definitely in my front room, and (unfortunately) the blind salesman was also in the room.:)

I used to work for a blinds company and we use to get cancellations due to certain issues, however the company never took anyone to court as the 50% deposit more than covered the cost of the blinds to be made, you would be surprised how little cost goes in to manufacturing a blind. I would ask the company to re-visit you and justify the cost if you can 100% prove that they are overcharging you. Also at the end of the day, no court in the land can actually force you to actually have the blinds fitted. They also have to bear in mind that it would caost at least £500 to take you to court and its a risk that they could lose for the sake of £300 + the £500 costs. Who is the blinds company if you dont mind me asking?!

Now I'm getting confused.

Did you order online, in the shop or did the salesman come to your home?

If he came to your home there is a possibility of cancellation depending on how it was all arranged.

There is also a possibility of cancellation if ordered online.

the timescales might be an issue if the contract was signed in April.

Did they give you any information on your rights to cancel?

I'd be quite surprised if they sued you. Even if they did they could only recover their losses (for eg the profit on the deal), they couldn't make you have them fitted.

If they sued you for their profits they'd need to prove them to you. I hope you'd then tell us all the amount of profit they are making on each deal.
