Hi All

Im new so sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

My sister had recieved a letter from a debt collection agency to her address in my name demanding payment for a debt that is supposed to be in my name. The credit was applied for (allegedly) by me at my sisters address. Now I have NEVER been registered at my sisters address, Never been on the electoral register at her address and have not had anything on credit since i met my wife over 6 years ago. My sister is getting worried by the letters as she thinks it could be affecting her credit rating as she is the homeowner, Im going to ring the DCA on friday does any one know what I should say , if anything, or should i just send them one of your letters ? My sister has told them i have never lived there but they are just saying its on our records and keep sending her letters.

Any advice would be welcome

Hi, and welcome.

Ok first thing - Please do not telephone the DCA that is one of the first rules on here.

Secondly to placate your sister, had you applied for and been granted credit from her address, much more correspondence would have come to her address, certainly at the time any such loan/cc whatever was granted, so I think that this should calm her and make her realise that this is just a phishing trip by some DCA trying to find someone with a name similar to yours.

There is a 'prove it' letter that should be sent to this DCA - send by recorded delivery and do not sign it.

This company will also need to be reported to the OFT and Trading Standards and possibly the ICO as well, but more about that later.

Every journey begins with a single step :):)

Please note: I have no qualifications in this area - my advice is learned from the wonderful members of this Forum. Thanks to you all for your help.

Move all banking activity to another banking group if you have a dispute - your funds can be used to offset debts within the same group.

Be careful with Banking details (card/account numbers) as these can be used to take unauthorised payments.

It's an individuals information that is registered with a CRA not the address, so unless you are financially linked such as a joint a/c non of your info will be linked to your sister. There is no such thing as a 'blacklisted' address.
