Hi again

I have received a letter from Halifax saying pay £253.11 now, phone this number between the set hours.

Your bank account is £253.11 over the overdraft limit. Please pay this now.

Now surely as i have an agreed overdraft of £300 and hardly go over it, except when they charge me £35 for every bill that cant be paid. Wouldnt an agreed overdraft mean that its a fixed amount, i have asked them before for an increase (to 500) just to allow the transfer of money from different accounts. They said no.

I am getting paid on friday, and more than enough will be going in to the account to make up for it, will i be able to call them and say i will be getting paid and will pay it then?

It would be wise for you to open a 'parachute' a/c with an unrelated banking group. Banks are entitled to offset between a/cs and most of them are trying to recoup money by reducing agreed overdrafts & in effect foreclosing on the original agreements. If you are not careful they could end up taking all of the overdraft from whatever monies are paid into your a/c leaving you potless.

After you've done that you should send them a SAR to reclaim unfair charges, at £35 a pop it is nearly three times what you should have paid. When you get that information back you will be able to determine through the copies of the statements how much money can be reclaimed thus reducing the amount owing.
