Having unfortunately found myself in need of these organisations services and paying ridiculous amounts of interest, which then again kept me having to go back to them, I decided enough.

I stopped paying them.

Thanks to this forum.

I have received the obligatory mammoth charge at this time, along with the numerous phone calls.

Today's call was fun when a colleague transferred the call to me, to whit, the originating caller stated.

"Its x.y.z from PTP, are you John Smith."

I replied, yes, I'm John Smith.

"Hi, John Smith. For Security purposes, what is your date of birth"

I replied, I'm sorry, I do not give out personal details on the phone.

"But its for data protection, etc.etc." replied PTP goon.

To which, I replied, "Given that you are asking for my data, then

my data is protected under said act"

Goon, replied," As a debtor you have no data protection".

At this point, red mist and I hung up.

An E-Mail with the usual £58.00 charge applied came forth, to which I have sent a cannot afford it reply.

I fully intend to pay these people back, but not under their illegal terms.

Hi there,

sorry this might be a "teaching you to suck egg's" momement but have you considered refusing to speak to them on the phone and keeping everything as written form incase things get nasty?

PTP will soon lose interest and pass to DCA probably Clarity. These people are not bad compared to other DCA's. They will probably offer you a reduced settlement figure or accept £10 per month ( if that's what you can afford). Either way I would make them whistle for their 'unlawful' £58.

Oh my word.

They are the pits.

I am still trying to negotiate a repayment plan with them after two weeks. It took less than 24 hours with the other three companies.

I am still getting calls from one of their muppets asking if I can pay back in full by the end of the month.

I got an E-Mail reply from PTP, which is as follows:

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Thank You for your email.

Unfortunately for you, your payment proposal is not acceptable.

The funds were issued to you in good faith and were due to be repaid on the

30.4.09, as agreed in the loan agreement you entered into.

As per the terms & conditions of the loan agreement, Pounds Till Payday do not allow rollovers, extensions, payment plans nor payments in installments. The loan is issued on a maximum 31 day loan period.

Being you have defaulted on your payment, your file has been issued to me as your Account Manager.

As your Account Manager, I can hold on to your file for a maximum of 4 weeks to

resolve payment.

You have a final deadline of the 5.6.09 to make full payment of £708.90.

Unfortunately, if full payment is not received by the above date, your file will

be escalated.

This may result in being passed to a 3rd party Debt Collection agency called

Clarity who do operate a door to door collection service, they may list your

details with a credit rating agency and further charges may also be applied to

your account.

Obviously, I do not wish this to happen to you Derek and sincerely hope we can reach a negotiation and resolve this issue.

Once your balance is cleared by the above date, you will be able to reloan

immediately.

I look forward to your response.

Regards,

I particularly like the "unfortunately for you" part.......

Excellent. I would ignore them. You have 4 weeks before you need to consider a revised payment plan. I would make it substantially lower than the one you have offered so far.

Clarity will not be at your doorstep. I have never spoken to them - just correspond by e-mail. They seem more than happy with the monthly tenner I am paying them.

I am still at the "Account Manager" will call for a weekly update despite the fact that nothing has changed at my end.

They love reading from their scripts don't they?

I also had him telling me that their debt collectors operate a "doorstep" service.

Could not be bothered to explain the legalities of that to him, he does not sound very bright.

  • 4 weeks later...

At last.

Finally got my Clarity referal.

They are asking for £708.00 for an overall bill of £650.00

This is what PTP asked for after applying there "Charges".

What could I say to clarity to state that I have no intention of paying this ludicrous charge, but I am quite happy to repay the £650.00.

Many Thanks
