For the last 2 days, I have had a sound in my left ear and it is driving me crazy. Yesterday, it was a tap-tap-tap-tap going on all day, today it's still rhytmic, but more whoosh-stop-whoosh-stop, you know like if you pressed your finger on your ear and let go over and over again.

I can't concentrate, I can't do anything, it doesn't hurt, but is distracting beyond imaginable.

Anyone ever had this, any idea to make it stop? If it's still going tomorrow, I'll have to go to my GP, as I can't hear myself thinking ATM. :-(

Seriously, it could be tinnitus as it sounds exactly the same!! If so, then you may have to learn to live with it as it rarely goes away!!

Alternatively, if you have been swimming then you may have got water in your ear. The cure for this is to stand on your head so that the pressure forces the water out!!:p

If you feel I've helped then by all means click my star to the left...a simple "thank you" costs nothing! ;)

Seriously though - it could be water or a build up of wax causing a pressure differential. The wax issue can be solved with olive oil (unlikely to need syringing unless it is a serious build-up) - a few drops to soften the wax and it should sort itself.

Don't go poking around too much with cotton buds - you can do some serious damage if you get carried away.
