Literally in this case.

Dog has floppy ears. Said ear got caught in rose, bramble, whatever and got a small rip. That in itself wasn't too bad, but the dog then kept on scratching it and ripping it further. :-(

We had him in a cone until it healed, but when DH took him to the field the other day, he took it off to give him a breather, and that's when the dog got bitten. Now he has the staples on his shoulder/chest, we can't put the cone back on and the bloody animal has been going to town on his ear which is now worse than ever, and my walls look like the inside of an abattoir, it's going to take me weeks to clean it all up.

Anyway, any suggestions to get that ear protected from lethal claws? Plasters don't work (short hair and he can claw them off in seconds), cone is not an option ATM, liquid spray plaster is not enough, and I am in despair.

We have thought of sticking him in a child's bonnet, but not sure it would work. Any other suggestions/solutions, no matter how absurd they sound? :-|

don't know what to suggest - but i put dog with hat into google search - images and just looking at them made me laugh - take a look and it will cheer you up and you never know you might get some inspiration.

good luck! (p.s. like your prohibition photo!)

Like you wouldn't believe, Dave. Put it this way, I understand him much better than I understand my OH at times. Then again, the dog does try to communicate how he feels, something most husbands are not known for, lol. :-D

sorry... this is serious.

if anyone wants to know I have met said dog, and he's a "good boy".

I assume he's using his back leg to scratch his ear... what about a bit of string joining his legs?
