A friend of mine did lend 500 pounds to somebody and now she moved, did not pay it back and don't answer mobile phone calls. I would like to trace her for the money but do not want to give the matter to the solicitor as it's I want to save cost. Is there any chance I can get information via the council of the last know address without getting a court order against the council to disclose information? Would appreciate any help.

Had exact same thing happen to me. I was told it would be hard to prove in the courts and to forget it. My friend borrowed 500.00 to lend to a friend that was losing house, didnt tell me it was not for her directly though. She told me no hope of her repaying it and then had the cheek to ask for another 500.00 for her this time. Shows what my 'friends' really thought of me, wisened up now. Got to be careful now as cant even trust those close to us, sad.

I'm not sure there's any reason her former local authority would even know where she lives now. You could try whoever lives at her old house, ask if there's a forwarding address.

Please note nothing I say constitutes legal advice.

Well it is easy if you know where that person lives. Get a judgment online via small claims and hope they do not denfend.

And then? I have a judgement for nearly £1500 and the scary bailiffs, Marstons, are unable to collect despite me detailing their assets values and location etc.

If they can't collect then there is the HCEOs fee to consider.

Thank god for ex160
