Hi everyone,

I have a major phone problem and really need some advice.

Last Friday I went out with some friends and the next day I realised that my phone was gone. I’m not sure if I dropped it or whether someone lifted it but I couldn’t find it.

I spoke to my friends and when they couldn’t find it and there was no sign at the club I reported it as lost/stolen to O2.

I reported it within 24 hours of my detecting that it had gone missing (just!) only to discover that someone had made over £1700 of international calls and O2 say I have to pay.

I am insured through my bank but I changed handset without telling them and they are “looking into it” at the moment.

What do I do? I just don’t have £1700.

Caps are there to protect the network, not the customer. As for making 'payment arrangement with O2' - this will be a world first for any network. Current industry practice is to close the account, sell it on and let the DCA take the strain as O2 certainly don't want it.

Unless you have evidence to the contrary?
