List of Solicitors Specialising in Consumer Credit in Scotland

Unless one happens to live in the postcode areas covered by places like Govan Law Centre it seems very hard to find solicitors in Scotland who know anything about Consumer Credit Law. I've just been chatting with someone who was told by the solicitor he contacted not to bother defending a case where the agreement clearly does not have the prescribed terms, so he's going to do it himself.

 

Not all of us will want to do that, so I'm starting this thread in the hope that folk can list solicitors who actually know something about these issues, who are not restricted to certain postcodes, and who might also do legal aid. Some of us have the misfortune not to live in 'deprived' areas, yet we have no money etc.

Sol's are a waste of money in my opinion. If I am presented with a summons, I am going to explore every avenue of law in order to defend my case. A solicitor will just go for the easy option every time especially if he/she is on legal aid.

 

I have defended 3 cases myself and not one has gone to court. I have also launched four claims myself and all have been successful.

 

My advice is to research and be your own solicitor. Many judges will respect the fact that you have research the relevant law yourself and will credit you accordingly...if your argument is correct that is !

I take your point bggs and notice Arwen's comment on your thread that he/she went for self-defence. I really just asked this because I've noticed Rory's comments more than once that defending oneself in Scotland is more tricky and his advice to find a solicitor.

I advise this for ordinary causes because the rules are quite complicated (although there is nothing to stop you doing it yourself). I would advocate doing it yourself for small claims and summary cause actions as you are always the best person to protect your own interests.

bumping an old thread, anyone have any ideas of good Sol's in Scotland dealing with the CCA?
