Hi and welcome to the site.

What you should do is clearly take some steps to find out what they have done.

This site does not advocate being deliberately evasive if you have a real liability to the debt, and therefore would be wrong to expect to have advice which would show coersion into that.

You need to find out what has happened and go from there.

Unlawful penalty charges by the banks is a completely different matter, and one that you will recieve all the support on from here.

Careful with this deal.........a few have been caught out and had to pay the 34.99!!!

I reckon its much easier to pay the 2.00 they send you the file within a week and you still have the option of logging online if you want to have continued services.

Thanks for the advice.

I have never been in contact with Barclaycard because i'm so scared of how much I owe them now. I don't mind paying the £400 back that I used.

But I estimate that if they have added their usual charges it will be near to £1000 that I owe.

I'm going to be brave and contact them!

  • 1 year later...

Hi, sorry for hijacking this thread but it's excatly what I'm looking for.

I just received a letter from Lowell claiming I owe them £1465 - they claim they have bought the debt from Barclays (an old account).

I stupidly called them & paid £100 after panicking to the threats they made about re-defaulting my credit record. I have sent teh standard letter since via recorded delivery asking for a copy of teh original CCA etc.

My main question is this - the account defaulted in 1998 but last payment made was 2003. Can Lowells get this default updated on my credit record if I enter into an agreement to pay them should the debt prove real? I've spent a lot of time & effort cleaning up my record only to get threats from these people. The first default is no longer on my record - I realise I am in teh 6 year statutory period but a clean credit record is worth more to me than this money they are claiming!
