hi all,not sure if iv posted in right forum so if not i do apologise,i could do with some advice please.on sat i recieved a letter from scott and co about my council tax debt saying,

despite our previous reminder your repayment arrangement with us remains in arrears.you repayment programme has now been cancelled and we are instucted to commence enforcement action by way of arrestment and/or attachment of your effects.where appropriate our solicitors may be instucted to raise a petition for your sequestration.this could result in the disposal of personal assets to meet the debt and impact upon your ability to obtain credit.if you are experiencing financial difficulty, please contact us now for assistance.

balance due £4385.49 payment rec £908.

i am paying £40 a month(well should be i have missed a few)but cant really afford to pay this amount but when i talk to them one the phone thay wont let me reduce payment.

should i write to them asking if i can pay a smaller amount for a few months then take it from there??i did have a wages arrestment for c/tax but that has now finished(started at £25 a month then went to £15 a month)

also i recieved a letter from the dept of work and pensions asking me to contact them to start repaying a social fund loan from the job centre of £442. now that last (and only)time i signed on was april 2000,the loan was taken out when i got my first house, jan 1998,any advise on how to handle this?

Hi, sweet_hun.

I think writing to them is the way to go, wait and see what they say.

I'm paying them monthly, have been for over a year and they keep writing and telling me it's not enough

They can't get blood out of a stone.

Good luck with that, let us know how you get on.

Regards.

Scott.

It would also be a good idea to enclose an income and expenditure sheet do demonstrate that you are attempting to meet your obligations in line with your ability to pay. Also if possible I would either enclose the first payment at the amount you are offering or go to their website and make a payment there.

  • 2 weeks later...

hi guys thanks for your help, this is the letter i sent,

I am writing in reply to your letter dated 13/11/08.

I am writing to ask if it would be possable to start up repayments

again at a lower rate of £20.00 a month until jan 2009?I have had

some money coming off my wages now for a few months/years,

one was a wages advancement when my work changed their pay

cycle and gave us a month wages in advance but i have had to

pay it back at £46.00 an month which i think will be finished in

December and two was a wages arrestment at £15.00 which i

think i have finished paying back.

I am asking to reduce payment till January as my youngest sons

birthday is the 1st December,then i have christmas,also both

children have various trips/pantos with the school over the next

few months.

I look forward to your reply, and will be able to make a payment

on the 29th November.

got a letter back today saying,

we refer to your recwent correspondance and note its content.

we have accepted your arrangment of £20 per month from 29th nov 08(they put 07,lol)until jan 09 at which time an increase will be required.

although we have accepted your arrangment under new legislation an officer will call with a charge of payment shortly.

gave first letter they sent me and copy of letter i sent them to my friend who has a wee man from scott and co who comes to collect money for her c/tax arrears and he not happy with scott and co (nice man apparently)and he gonna come and see me and sort something out so need to wait and see,il keep you all posted.anyway come jan i might not have a job so tough poo poo scott and co,lol(i work for woolies)
