Just phoned my former mortgage company to ask why I was charged £3,947.53 when I moved house and took on a new mortgage with another company. The guy explianed that it was a penalty charge, that I was in breach of my contract which states that in thef rist 2 years I can be charged 6% of the outstanding balance. He is going to forwad a copy of the contract I signed.

Am I able to claim this money back? ANyone had any experience of this?

Thanks

Did your mortgage advisor not mention this, were you on some sort of deal I.E a fixed rate for two years or a discount rate? if you were only remortgaging and not moving you should not of remortgaged. however if you were indeed moving you should of staid with your previous lender as your mortgage was probably portable and you may not of been charged the early repayment charge :?
