I hope someone can give me some advice here:

In early Dec 2005 I bought a computer from Dell UK after a long drawn out carry on about delivery it eventually arrived 20 Jan 2006 I paid nearly £900 for it.

I was going to cancel the order early Jan 2006 but the sales rep offered a 3 year next business day on site warranty as comp so I went for that, so he sent me out an Order Acknowledgement for this PC and on it it states my customer number, order number, items purchased and the service tag number my name and address and the fact that it has the 3 year nbd warrenty.

Around the 20th September this machine started to fail when being switched on and crashing a lot when being used then on the 25th it failed to start and is now dead, I was busy and didnt manage to make the call until the following Monday 29th after getting messed around for a while I eventually asked what the problem was and I was told that that system tag was on a machine built for Germany and was sent out to Germany mid Nov 2005 and that the machine that I had bought was a low end PC for about £200 and that was all the records they had showed for me, I was then told that as the machine was sent to Germany they could not support it and was told that was all they could do for me.

I am a person that keeps all emails for years so I set about finding all my emails too and from this less than honest sales rep and I found quite a few where I am complaining and he is replying saying he will sort it out and get my system to me and as compensation he will give me the extra warrenty.

I have shown all these to Dell customer services and get nowhere they still insist its a German machine and is not covered by them does anyone have any ideas what I can do with this as they are now stonewalling me and not answering my emails.

I have asked them what is

Have I and possibly Dell been conned by one of your less than honest sales reps? if so what can be done ? also if this system was supposed to have been sent to Germany there must be an Inland Revenue interest you are claiming systems sent overseas but in fact they are staying in UK. Also if the machine was second hand as you are now trying to tell me why was I charged full price and not made aware of the fact it was second hand when I bought it?

HELP advice needed ASAP I have explained that the PC has been down for nearly 1 month but nobody at Dell seems in the least interested in that fact either.

Sorry Sapphire, I'm a bit confused - are you in the UK or Germany? If its the UK, you should contact your local Trading Standards immediately as obviously the machine supplied is not fit for the purpose and should be replaced by them free of charge! If you are in Germany you could contact Dell's local TS and the same applies, as long as you have all the back up paper work they are in trouble.

Trading Standard won't be of much use - they just make soothing noises. As for Dell, there's no accounting for incompetence, and as all it takes it a misplaced digit why should you suffer as a result of their error? Your proof will be your order and invoice, which will state the relevant numbers. You'll then find out where the discrepancy is.

Should they refuse to fix it, there is nothing stopping you arranging for a repair yourself, then sending them the bill, however Dell is invariably the best place to get their machines services due to their use of specialised components and OS (there's even a Dell flavour of XP/Vista incompatible with standard PC's)!
