We've just completed a 3 year lease with a landlord for a lock up which we used for our catering company. We spent a lot of money fitting a kitchen. The old electrics were dodgy and we wired our kitchen from a new distributor box. About 6 weeks ago we got a phone call from the landlords agents informing us we had been invoiced for the wrong amount and we owed them £3,500 back rent. We checked our lease and they did have the wrong figures, but do we have any redress or should be be allowed time to pay?

We moved to a new unit last week and the agent of the landlord has told us he wants the old unit emptied, painted (walls and floors) and for us to get an electrical certificate. Reluctantly we agreed to do the painting, but do we need to do the electrics? What can they do to us if we don't.

Any advice would be greatly received. I can't wait to get away from these landlords.
