Car clamping woman sent to jail

_44608921_meakin226.jpg Rebecca Meakin was found guilty last month

A woman who ran a car clamping firm which took thousands of pounds from drivers has been jailed for four years.

Rebecca Meakin, of Millers Vale, Heath Hayes, Staffordshire, was convicted of blackmail by charging motorists up to £300 to retrieve their vehicles.

Her company, Rowencroft Immobilisers, worked at car parks in Cannock and Worcester, Stafford Crown Court heard.

Judge Simon Tonking said regulation of the UK clamping industry was "far from rigorous".

He said: "The boundaries between what is lawful and unlawful are unclear. "It is a most unsatisfactory state of affairs." Her co-defendant Cameron Khan was jailed for four-and-a-half years for a number of charges, including conspiracy to blackmail.

If only they did this with bailiff company directors and also local authority managers ?

Is she sporting a syrup or just having a bad hair day?

Jail is to good for the likes of these evil individuals, they should do hard labour while inside and made to pay back all the monies they extorted.

Bankrupt them if need be.

Speaking after the trial, Ian Pinkney, Senior Crown Prosecutor said:

"These people ran a clamping business characterised by intimidation and dishonesty. If it is done properly then clamping is a legitimate business but if it is done improperly then it becomes a serious criminal offence."

It would be interesting to know where in the CPS eyes the boundary lies between legitimate clamping and blackmail?
