Hi folks,

my son is now 16 and had his last GCSE exam today. He wants to go on to 6th Form to enhance his application to the RAF.

I received my award notice today and it shows that payments will stop on 18th August this year. I had already spoken to someone at HMRC some weeks ago when my son decided he'd like to go on to 6th form and they said to let them know when he gets his GCSE results.

I was a bit worried though as someone has just told me that they will only continue paying CTC's if my son takes certain subjects, (ie English, Maths, Science).

Does anyone know if this is correct?

Many thanks,

xx

Yep... exactly the same happened to me. Once they know for sure that your son's staying on at 6th Form, payments will continue. :)

Has your son applied for EMA ? If not, then he needs to get an application pack.

Phew....sounds like we should be ok then....you can't imagine how relieved I am! I honestly thought it was course specific.

He's applied for EMA so he should start getting that in September with any luck. I never thought about a bus pass though.

Thanks everyone :)

and don't forget to let child benefit know that he is staying in education, that can then continue as well.

Good point Poppy.

I sent back a form to the CHB Dept explaining that my son will continue to FE. I got a letter from them some days later saying my CHB will stop. I assume they want to know for sure he is continuing to FE. We obviously have to wait for his GCSE results but I have been told by his Year Head that they expect a minimum of Grade C in 7 subjects. I expect I will have to ring them when the results are in!

And don't forget if he starts FE then drops out you can still claim CTC/WTC and CB for 20 odd weeks.
