Hi all, As I worked on a military base that had a caravan storage compound I thought it would be a good idea to store my caravan there, very secure. Armed guards, CCTV, mobile patrols and it was free. A few months back I had a falling out with the company I worked for at the base. I made requests to remove my caravan from the base through the company, they refused. A few days later I received a call from the RAF Police to say that my caravan window had been smashed. I went over to the base the following day to check out the damage.I was asked if I had any problems on the base I said only with my employer. The Police officer said that explains a lot because it looks like the caravan has been targeted as it is the only caravan damaged and the extent of the damage is severe, not just a broken window. This was 7 weeks ago.I have made it very clear as to who might of done this but the RAF Police have done nothing, the MOD Police have done nothing, and my employer has done nothing. Since I last visited the caravan further damage has been done to the caravan. Inside is covered with graffiti and it stinks of urine. Entry and exit to and from the base the is covered by CCTV and is controlled with vehicle and personal security passes, yet nothing. I have since learnt that the CCTV footage has been taped over and that the MOD Police forensic team did not turn up. I am sick to my stomach at the lack of investigation and enquiries that have been carried out. With the further damage to the caravan where is the security? Now my insurance company is playing up and there is a chance they wont now pay out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Anyone one got any ideas where I can go with this. Thanks

where is the security?

Probably on a train seat somewhere.

Make an appointment to see the chief constable and see what he has to say. Although he does read the incident book, he may not be fully aware of the extent of criminal damage.

  • 1 month later...

Hi, not to sure if this is the right place to post, but here goes. Some months ago my caravan was very badly damaged so much so, that the insurance company put it beyond economic repair. I requested to move the caravan approx 1 week before the caravan was damaged but my line manager where I worked refused me access to site to remove it. As I was in dispute with the company at the time I believe as do the police that someone or two from the company are responsible. It is a secure site and personal and vehicle passes are needed to gain access to the site. What I would like to know is, would it be possible to start a claim against the line manager for the short fall between what the insurance paid out and what I paid for it some £4500. Also for the lost use of the caravan this year for his refusal to let me onto site.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

If this was on an RAF base, the civil police will not be interested - and if the land is on MoD property as I suspect, they will not have jurisdiction. I'm also aware that certain insurance companies EXCLUDE cover on military property, so you will need to check your policy carefully for exclusions, if they don't play ball and you are covered, a complaint to the FoS may be in order.

As for pursuing a criminal action, MoD police rarely if ever get involved in what they believe is a civil matter. The damage you have suffered falls short of what they would deem to me an incident worthy of investigation. I would make arrangements to have the caravan moved ASAP before even worse happens to it.
