I had an account with the Halifax which I thought I had closed. Apparently it had a £10 overdraft and now they are putting a £28 charge each month plus interest. How do I prevent this? I am not in a position to pay at present, which they are aware of.:mad:

I am presently considering bankruptcy,but once again money is the problem. For my husband and myself to go bankrupt will cost £1000.

Any advice will be gratefully received.

Hi pondwicks, sorry to hear you're having problems.

The way i'ld deal with this is i'ld pay the exact amount the account was left overdrawn and then i'ld start the reclaim process for all monies that are showing as outstanding due to charges and interest.

You don't say just how overdrawn with charges the account is though or wether or not you're being hassled by their in-house collections or external debt collectors...

It would help if you could expand your question...

Also, the correct link to the Insolvency web site is;

The Insolvency Service Website

Could I also suggest giving the nice people at the Consumer Credit Counselling Service or National Debtline a call to discuss your problems with a trained counsellor, both of these are registered charities that don't charge for their service..

CCCS - Free Debt Advice from the UK's Leading Debt Charity

National Debtline, for FREE CONFIDENTIAL and INDEPENDENT ADVICE call 0808 808 4000

In the meantime i'll also ask that this be tranfered to the General Debt forum.

Don't hesitate to ask if you need more help.

Best wishes, Dave.
