I joined Experian (?) a while back on some sort of free trial but never managed to figure out where to find the full details - there was a link to pay 30 pounds or so I recall - is this the only way and if not what are other options?

A copy of your credit report costs £2 and is available by writing to the relevant CRA. A copy of your credit report should be received by you within 7 days after they have received your request.

Only if you sign up to the 30 day trial can you view it on-line. If you do that do not forget to cancel before the 30th day.

I think I've realised now that getting something instantly costs a hefty bit of dosh so will end up going paper route I think.

Basically no, but different companies use differnet CRA's and don't neccesarily use all 3
