As usual, I imagine this has been covered elsewhere but I've just spent twenty minutes looking and can't find it. The heading says most of it really. As I understand it, if you have bad credit, or even someone who previously lived at your address did, it would jeopardise the chances of others living at your addrress getting bank accounts, credit etc. I have been told this is no longer the case but there seem to be differing views whoever you talk to. Does anyone on here know the truth of the matter? I'd be delighted to know. Thanks

It isnt true at all, credit worthiness is accredited to a person not their address, sometimes however there is an association on the credit file between people who have absolutely no connection at all, in instances of this, you can fill out a notice of correction and send this to the CRA.

Hi Mate,

Not true. When I lived with my mum I had lots of defaults and CCJ's. She had no probs getting credit.

I had a default with Egg Card, My mum applied with them and still got one so no worries.

Completed:

Woolwich: Received £30

Intelligent Finance: Received £1100 after two years and approximately 20 letters, 6 pieces of hair and an eyeball.

Barclaycard: Received £90

HFC: Received £170

Surely if there was a financial link this would affect others?

For example, your partner is in debt and you had an old joint account then split-up, if say the wife didn't pay her debt but the hubby did then HE could struggle to get credit in the past - or is this NOT the case?

Please clarify thanks

I think it depends on what you are doing and who with.

If you have a good credit rating and your partner a bad one and you applied for a joint loan/account then yes their credit worthiness would strongly affect the outcome. If you applied for a loan without your partner then no it should not affect you.

If you live in a rented house and previous occupiers had bad debt then you may indeed get finacially linked to them however this shouldn't necessarily affect you and you can easily get that link broken as Lula suggests.

The main problem seems to be when ppl live in rented accomadation as previous bad teneants have affected me. Have stated before that the accomadation is rented and some companys dont seem to understand that.

If it is something like that then i think you need to speak to the CRAs and see what they are willing to do for you. They will put a notice of correction on your file over the phone as they have with me before but that was only for companys that had searched my credit file when i applied for a quote for hime insurance with them.

Continuing in the same vein, my son has moved out but kept his Orange phone account nder my address. They have phoned three times this week asking to speak to him and telling us that the bill is unpaid and if the issue isn't resolved it will black mark our address. Are they allowed to threaten us like this or is there some truth in the matter?

Thanks, Folks
