I dont know if this is the correct place to put this but ive just been looking on telecomunications, there is a thread on there about charges for not paying by DD, it says that the companies shouldnt really do it and you could claim the money back, i was just wondering if it would be the same for mortgage companies?

I pay by debit card every month because they have said thier bank will only let them take DD's on the first of every month (which i know not to be true as i work in credit control) but anyway this isnt a convenient date for us. but every month we get charged a percentage (works out at about £30 per month) for not paying by DD. It was in the mortgage offer but should they really be doing this?

Unlawful penalty unless it is an express term of the mortgage.

All contracts must be equitable to both parties. You as a customer should not be penalised for the mortgage companies poor banking facilites.
