Well generally speaking, Bassett Hounds don't do debt collection, but if they did, they'd be the nicest debt collectors in the world. On that basis I don't think I'll get the job.

I've just been sniffing around 1st Credit's website, just to see if there's anything else of use on there for the Judge Judy video. I'm hoping to spend all day working on it today.

As soon as the 1st Credit site loaded, my virus scanner finished scanning and popped up a small window over the top of it and it said in red letters. "Threats detected" So even my virus software doesn't trust a DCA either. :D

I let my neighbour see my DCA Promotional Video a few hours ago. She now thinks I'm totally crazy. Especially after the laser show the village got for free at 11pm last night.

Been on YouTube and found the best video ever put on there.

 

After signing up a year ago I have watched over 7000 videos.

 

I need to get out more often.

Apparently the FOS is still very busy;). Dealing with 2 complaints for me and have stated that they are "currently receiving high volumes of enquiries".

tell me is it a pointless task to complain to fos and ts and oft?? will they do anything?

It may not seem worth it, but the more complaints they get, the better. When they get tons of complaints then media coverage that they don't act on them. The Government are already asking questions about DCA practices during the financial meltdown. So keep complaining as often as you can. The more who do this, the sooner the DCA's get the massive kick up the ass they deserve.

OFT - it may seem a pointless task, as they don't look into individual complaints, but it represents our best chance of getting major change in the long term. It is the OFT who issue the licences which these rogues trade on. Please do complain if you have a genuine reason, because one day somebody will make the complaint which will be the straw that breaks the camel's back, and some rogue operator will disappear from the scene.

 

TS - Impossible to predict, as they vary so much from area to area. If they are totally derelict in their duty, trading standards officers can always be reported to their own superiors. They are always answerable to somebody.

 

FOS - For the most part, these are totally useless, but there have been exceptions. As it costs the company £450 if the FOS investigate, it is always worth trying to get them involved if you have any sort of genuine case. Even if it doesn't benefit you personally, these amounts all add up, and may just end up making someone think twice about wholesale sharp practices which are generating a mass of complaints.

 

In short, the situation is far from ideal, but we owe it to ourselves and those who follow us to keep making the appropriate complaints when justified.

i used to deal with FOS when i worked for a firm that handled endowment mis sale claims, and i always got the impression that they couldnt give a f***.

 

if we had to refer a claimto FOS, itd be 2 months before they sent us confirmation the claim had beeen recieved, then itd be anything up to 2 years before we would get anything back from them to let us know wether they were upholding the complaint or not.

whenever we called them for clarification on any points, their staff would be al like "pfff, do we have to?" and such, once, when i spoke to one, he actually said "i cant be ar*ed".....almost reminds me of how the threat monkeys work.

 

im assuming they have pulled their socks up a bit now?

So my earlier cheekiness got a reply from water people saying

"we are entitled to require payment annually in advance, in accordance with The Water Industry Act 1991" I have refused to pay their bi annual charge and am paying it quarterly AFTER i have used it, hence they threatened me with court,etc etc.

Any idea if the 1991 act is enforceable or do the 1999/2003 Acts/compliance to Ofwat guidelines/OFT/common sense/logic supercede this asinine stupidity !?

I got 1 going through with fos about non disclosure of a cca, hfc finally sent one (application form that dont contain terms required by the act) they say that it is purely because it got the box " this is a credit agreement, sign it only if you want to be bound by it, if i dont respond by mid jan they will close the case,

 

I'm now going to write back and point out that it is NOT a valid agreement and state WHY it not an agreement and also POINT out WHY s127 was created, should be interesting to see wat happens then.

 

knowing FOS they prob still close the file.

like a lot of other people with complaints to FOS they just don't seem like they are interested.

 

are they not aware that the credit act is there to protect the consumers as well as creditors? impression I get is that it's there just to protect the creditors.

Well it's 12:00 and 0 seconds, so I win the award for being the first to say happy 2009 to everyone on the Cheekiness towards a DCA thread.

 

Lets hope at some point in 2009 we get a few DCA's credit licences taken away, and a few more shut down because debt collection no longer becomes financially viable.

 

Actually, let's not hope. It will happen if we work hard enough.
