First post here, hi everyone great site :D

I received a letter from Thames Credit last week, a company I'd never heard of, so I searched this site and found the thread below.

http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/debt-collectors-debt-collection/118737-thames-just-show-worth.html?highlight=thames+credit+email

I've sent them an email same as the first one in the thread, and now received the same letter so have sent an email as in the thread in reply.

Looks like this is standard operating procedure for these people

A big thanks from me to Quoth for his post, hopefully following it's example will get me a similar result.

Glad to see it helped. Thames seems to enjoy playing the Data Protection Act card and dropping the name of their FRAUD department when challenged in this way. Remember, you're not claiming to be their customer, so why should you prove who you are? Since they're claiming that you're their customer, they need to show they have the right person. They've painted themselves into a corner, undable to persue the debt without information, unable to provide that information without potentially breaking the DPA.

Received the letter asking me to provide "a copy of an official document, which shows your name, date of birth and a signature" today. They kindly enclosed a pre-paid envelope

Email sent as in Quoth's post.

Damn this is fun, pulling their chain :p

Whoa....don't send them anything !!! especially not a signature !!! it has been alleged that some DCA's will edit your signature onto an agreement !!! remember it is up to them to prove the debt is actually yours !!!

I only sent them an email as did Quoth...no details at all

See Quoth's post http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/debt-collectors-debt-collection/118737-thames-just-show-worth.html?highlight=thames+credit+email

Hi Everyone,

I have these fools writing letters to me for a 10 year old debt.

Is there an email address I can send an email to stating that I do not know anything about the debt and in addition, I have contacted watchdog, oft and Ico?

Thank you
