I'm trying to recliam my credit card charges from Natwest Credit Card, although I cancelled the account in 2005. I called them up and they said they have deleted my account details and therefore couldn't supply me with any information - such as account number or transactions etc.

I thought they had to keep records on file for at least 6 years - they kindly inform the credit agencies that my account was bad - but dont have the proof to back this up?!

Does anyone know if they are legally allowed to delete information like this and if there is a way around this as I have a funny feeling they owe me quite a bit....:?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Teera and welcome to CAG and to the NatWest forum.

You are righht, tHey have to keep information for anti-money laundring reasons and for tax reasons. However, don't bother phoning them (ever) - do everything in writing. First off, send a SAR - see the bank templates library on the forum home page.
