I was wondering if any of the nurses can help me. I'm trying to get a job as a health care assistant the general plan being that I need some sort of experience in a hospital that doesn't involve lying on a bed to make the personal statement look good when I apply for my medical degree in a few years. Because I'm a student I have to find something that's flexible and mostly at the weekend. Now I've been told that the best plan would be to sign up for the staff bank and that the local staff bank (NHS Lothian) is always looking to add numbers, jobs given first come first served to people who say they're available on the date the work is needed. This sounds perfect but I can't find out how to apply, I tried online but those were all jobs with set hours and the bank page itself goes on about cutting prices by having NHS nurses etc but no indication of where to sign up. Do any nurses know where I find that?

Hi Jen, you'll find bank HCA positions advertised here -NHS Jobs - NHS Careers and Jobs

Also, depending on where you live, you can register with NHS Professionals, which is an agency supplying staff to NHS Trusts around the country - NHS Professionals - flexible and temporary NHS jobs in the UK

Hope this helps, and good luck with your job hunt, I'm a student nurse working part-time in a call centre and I'm halfway through the application process for bank HCA work at my local hospital in the hope I can tell the call centre where to stick it!

Thanks Mree I live with a student nurse but she's got no intention of taking on bankwork in addition to her placements for now so although she could tell me what it was about she has no idea how to apply:rolleyes:

I can't find any bank jobs on the scottish link provided, I might call the nursing school at uni and ask them how to get a bank job.
