thank you so much for the link! i was on champax and protac went crazy... came off both tablets and hit self self destruct button and lost my four kids was thinking am i mad??

Hmmm well my two pennorth for what it's worth, is that these people who went on to have suicidal tendencies were already having mental health problems before starting on Champix

For the majority of people taking it (myself included) have found it to be a miracle drug with only a few unpleasant side effects which are bearable given the benefits of giving up cigarettes :)

My GP won't let you have Champix if you have previously had any documented form of psychiatric illness as it is known to lead to suicidal thoughts in this type of patient.

So far I've come down from 20 a day to 3 a day, and am finding the need to have a smoke decreasing, no longer finding that I want to smoke.

The downside has been the side effects - very bad, constant nausea, headaches, tiredness, insomnia and abnormal dreams. Some of the dreams have been very weird and some XXX rated (or is that just me??? :) ).

The advice I give in relation to benefits should be viewed as general advice and not specific to your individual claim circumstances. I cannot give specific advice on your claim as I cannot access the claim.

Your probably on Viagra - you better read the box again. :)

No - not you. My dreams are normally weird. On champix, well, down right loony (hough some say my usual dreams are that anyway. A favorite, less bizarre one is being chased by daleks in my mum's old workplace, only to turn a corner and find myself, as though normal, sitting down at a desk reading some daft textbook, then waking up (in the dream) and then to wake up in reality.

i had to stop because i have had a triple cardio operation to my stomach and legs ive already lost one sister through the same vascular disease i am back in hospital monday as the op has not taken ,before i forget my sister had both legs amputated but this led to her dying on the op table when they removed her other leg.....when your veins narrow and your legs get tired and sore take this as a warning the collapse of these veins can and more than likely do lead to gangarine so take heed quit the fags

Some have involved bunnies with axes that have been chasing me around Asda. Others, if I could have filmed them, would make a fortune in the porn industry if they passed censorship......

The worst of the side effects has to be the insomnia.

It's worth questioning how many of these so called side effects that are being reported, are actually the effects of nicotine withdrawal ?

Certainly insomnia, depression, bowel 'disruption" are all effects of withdrawing from nicotine ... Don't know about the dreams though.

I'm on day 1 of taking Champix ... we'll see how things go !!!!

Congratulations on taking the decision.

Good luck. ;)

I took it, absolutely no side effects apart from making it REALLY easy for me to give up smoking and the strange effect of me drinking less coffee, so go for it smirrors, if you notice anything then go back to your GP. Good Luck

Good luck.

But as regards the question of symptoms down to nicotine withdrawal, I have never experienced before when stopping smoking what I experienced with Champix.

I think it's one of them- works for some but not for others.

And I think a common problem with a lot of smoker is this:

"I wish I didn't smoke - it's just the stopping that's the problem".

No it's not actually!

I've given up before and not been so anti-smoking, i am actually ill this weekend because of it and the irony is i gave up so i wouldnt get ill like this anymore

When i did smoke i poo pooed the suggestion that secondary smoke was dangerous but now i know different

Did you by any chance sign up for an account just to have a pop at me?

So sad!!

I think i know who you are, mr one post

Hello there callumsgran. No I didn't sign up to have a pop at you as you have said. I don't think you know me I am called Michael and I live in Leicester. My reply to you was just a general opinion of most people who still smoke and can't get round to giving up as in my case.

You call me a Mr one post, well yes I am new to the forum but I shall probably be posting more in the future..

Hope you soon feel better. Have a nice easter.

just dropping in to comment

its been two months now since i stoped smoking, no patches, nothing, pure cold turkey,

and yes, i can smell how bad ciggies are.

i class myself as an ex smoker who still stands up for smokers rights.

its personel choice

if people are planing to give up, go for it.

its all in the mind the addiction,

get over the first day, thats all you need.

if you fail, no worries.

it just means you are not ready to give up just yet
