I contacted the bank after having my Visa rejected in a shop and was automatically put through to an independent firm of Debt Collectors who told me that I had not acknowledged any correspondence from either them or Bank. I had no knowledge that any of this had happened.

They gave me £500 of penalty charges and stopped my Visa account. Their reason for all this was that I hadn't informed them of my change of address. I had, in fact, 5 months prior to this, contacted the Bank and asked them to update all addresses. All other accounts etc were updated by them except Visa. The debt owed never exceeded the credit limit on the card at any time.

I was told that I should have contacted Visa directly, although the card was issued by BOS and any contact with Visa was through BOS anyway. They said that there was nothing I could do except pay or they would sue me.

I know am unable to get any credit, loans or mortgage even though the debt was satisfied.

Do the same rules apply to penalties incurred by Bank issued credit cards and overdraft facilities on bank accounts?
