Short story taxman states I owe them 3k plus change. Offense occurred because 2 Govt departments failed to communicate & I didn't notice.

Basically I assumed that my Army pension (taxed @ source) & my taxable income also taxed @ source were being managed appropriately between my tax office & the armed forces pensions dept.

It would seem that my Army Pension was not being taxed at the correct rate hence the underpayment.

Now I'm in a voluntary arrangement with my creditors so all pennies are accounted for.

What do I write to the tax man to make him sympathetic to my offer of a few quid per month not the tens or hundreds he's going to ask for.

At the moment they agree that it was partially their fault but I do owe the money so they'll refund all the late fee penalties that have been charged to date. Big of them that.

Any ideas fro a strategy:confused:

You could expalin to then about the DMP and ask if they will include the debt in that. If they agree then you other creditors aren't going to be too happy at receiving a reduced payment, but tough really.

The IR is one of the very few that will pursue the debt to bankruptcy.

Thats what concerns me Gizmo the taxman doesn't take prisoners and I've avoided the B word for nearly 3 yrs now, knocking off bits of the debt for not CCA - mostly catalogues.

I have a cunning plan tho I'm in the throws of firing my DM company for gross incompetence so I could offer the money I pay to them to the taxman.

I'll contact them tomorrow and see if their up for a negotiation.

Tks

Really depend on who you talk too, try asking for someone more senior, as I was having problems trying to get them to speak to me as my husband works abroad and can be away for 4-8 weeks at a time, they kept quoting data protection, but he has told them they can speak to me on his behalf. It was going down the court route as kept getting missinformed so decided to write to them, about my concerns, and that I was trying to sort it out,got a phone call from one of their supervisers, who apologised about the way it had been handled and we came to an agreement.

Not sure if this will help you in any way.

Good luck

Mrs c
