Hi Everybody,

I opened bank account with NatWest. There were around more than 200 pounds in my account. I left UK urgently because I got job offer here in Germany. I didn't have time to close my account and recover my amount.

Now after two years I have sent them a letter to close my account. But they are sending me letters to pay them 600 pounds to close my account. The amount is also increasing day by day and they are also talking about legal action and sending an agent to collect money.

Please suggest me how can I close my account?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Yes the account was Advantage gold.

The last letter contain "Balance £600Dr" with statement,

The balance is exclusive of unapplied interest, which is due or may become due.

The ADG fee is not reclaimable, but at £12 per month would have taken 17 months to go overdrawn assuming there was no other debits or credits, so the majority OD balance must be made up of unauthorised OD charges etc to reach £600 in 7 months or so.

You need to send a DPA SAR to find out exactly what the charges are.

See here:

You could also send them an a/c in dispute letter here:
