Hi there

Im new to this site and just wondered if anyone could offer me some help.

In June 2006 i had a problem with my current account, I was told I still owed money to my student account, this was three years since I heard off NatWest about this account, I thought I had paid back my over draft as I had heard nothing.

I was told I could no longer have an account with NatWest so I agreed to pay the outstanding amount (around £120) on the 21st of July.

On the 14th of August I received a cheque from NatWest along with a letter saying all accounts were discharged and the cheque was made in respect of the overpayment i have made.

I moved to another bank but a mix-up at work caused them to send my wages to my old NatWest account, I phoned NatWest and was told it was no problem and i could take my money out straight away.

Now here we are. Last week I received a letter from a debt recovery agency saying I owed NatWest £300.14. I called NatWest headoffice but they said they couldn't help and I would have to go into the branch to find out what ahd happened.

I went in today and they told me that when I closed the account (23rd August) I took all money including what I owed them because the debt was not off set. How is this possible when a when a week before i closed the account i had the letter saying all acconts had been discharged?

Any help would be great as I am thinking of taking legal action against NAFWEST!Hi there

I have had no response from Natwest at all. The case got took on by Moorcroft and i received calls nearly every day telling me that if i didn't pay the debt they would take me to court. I told them the situation that as far as i was concerned i had already paid the debt and had no account with NatWest no more. moorcroft told me that they did not have any direct contact with NatWest so i had to get on to the bank myself. I did not contact natwest but a week later i received a bank card from NatWest even though i was told in june 2006 it was illegal to have an account with them because of the outstanding debt. who is it illegal for me or NatWest? anyway june this year i heard nothing from moorcroft and then in july another credit recovery agency started calling (robinson, way & company). they give the same scare tactics as moorcroft do but i aint going to budge. I have been to CAB but they just recommended me to write a letter to the bank which i have already done. I just need some advice because its nearly a year on and they wont leave it. why dont they just get it over and done with by taking me to court?

Please anyone with something helpful just give me a shout.

Owen

Owen, have you kept all the paperwork relating to this matter?

If you have it in writing that the account was discharges, I fail to see why they're now chasing you for a debt that they've technically written off (in writing). So send them the letter here http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/natwest-bank/112868-natwest-wally-natwest.html#post1143692 to get all information that they hold on you - including letters that they've previously sent to you (one of which should be the one that states the debt is settled).

Also, as the account is now in dispute, click on my signature (A-Z guide) and click on the 'account in dispute' link. Send the DCA the letter in that link - as if your account is in dispute (which it is) they can't pass it onto a DCA.

Can't find what you're looking for? Please have a look at Michael Browne's

A-Z Guide

I do not answer queries via PM. If you send me a PM, please include a link to your thread - any advice I am able to offer will be on your thread.

Hi Hedgey.

I still have the letter it reads:

We write to confirm that your oustanding indebtness to the bank in relation to the above accounts has now been discharged, and enclose a cheque in the sum of £xxxxxx in respect of the overpayment you have made to your accounts..........................

I do not have a court date they just keep theatening to take me to court. I have wrote a letter of complaint but i am still waiting to here from NatWest. They have really stuffed things up as i cannot get a debit account no more as they have black listed me, and i need a debit account now as my new job involves travel abroard. What can i do about this mark against my credit because it was natwests fault to begin with? It would also be a great help if anyone has the name of the customer services manager as on the letter i received there was no name on it just a signature above customer services manager.
