Hi all

Don't know if this is in the right place.

So far today I have had

1 recorded message regarding debt and how they could help me?

1 recorded message regarding bank charges

1 from Global Telecom offering me a free phone

How do I get them to stop any advice would be welcome.

It's normally kitchens and windows. ahhh

Hi, Theres a company in Worcester that imports call blockers from the USA. They cost about £50 but mine is worth its weight in gold. If you contact BT about nusiance calls they can give you the details. Your family and friends can still get through but nothing thats a multi call automated sytem.

In order to stop telesales calls you can join the TPS list (Telephone Preference Service) the number for this should be in your phone book at the front somewhere.

If your getting nuisance calls from the bank/card lender etc its worth noting they are not allowed to talk to you if you don't answer their security questions. I generally tell them yes its me but refuse to answer the questions and tell them to put it in writing. :)

I just talk dirty to them ... didn't work for one guy, but that's a different story ...

Also I heard that if you get one of those calls that when you pick up the phone, noone is there. Just keep pressing the # key lots of times. this is supposed to disable their automated dialing machine. Whether it works I don't know.

Yes Registration with the TPS works and as detailed above takes 28 days.

If you receive calls tell them "You are breaking the law as this number is registered with the TPS. If you call again I will report you", they soon remove your details from their list"

Here is an alternative solution which is more fun:-

Do what my Mother-in-law used to do, tell them,

"Please can you hold on a second as I have something on the cooker and I just need to turn it off".

Put the telephone receiver beside the phone and go back to watching the television or whatever else you were doing for 30 mins to a hour, then replace the receiver. I'm sure you will not be bothered by them again.

I have a digital phone with caller identification. If it comes up as unidentified number, I just dont answer.

If you do answer, you have the right to ask them to take you off their list. It doesn't stop them from that call, but at least they won't sell you on to another telesales company (belive me, years ago I was one of those annoying people, and the companies sell your info on to others - that how they make their real money!). As a result, I get very few of these basta*rds calling me.
