Hi, evry1...hows it hangin'.

I sent Data Protection Act letter on 14th June and now I have received a letter (from Peter Townsend) stating they will only send copy statements as they are 'not obliged' to send other stuff.

(MI and schedule of charges.)

I read about what to do next and I am now waiting for copy statements.

Incidentally they returned my £10.

Keep the faith and Thanks for your help and advice.

I will update this thread as and when I can.

Any advice given would be greatly appreciated.

On Friday I rang to find out what was going on...they at first didn't have a clue then the guy on the phone went away for a while to find out.

He came back to tell me nothing had been done. I got slightly annoyed and told them that if I did not receive my statements within the alloted time I would inform the Information Commissioner.

He then told me the statements will be sent within six days.

So I am still waiting.

Don't ring them! Deadly trap - much danger.

Write them a letter at the 30 day point and remind them when the 40 days is up. That's ALL. At day 41, make your complaint and consider starting an action under the DPA s.7

Hi I received my copy Statements with a letter from them saying 'Copies are not exact duplicate of original statements, because these copies of bank statements r produced in a slightly different way'.

I have looked through these statements but cannot find any charges at all.

Does 'DR' mean overdrawn, if so there are no charges made in the 'payments' section.

Can some1 tell me wot abbreviations i should be looking for.

Just to Recap

---------

There are no :

charges for unpaids out

unpaids

Paid referral fees

UNAUTH OVERDRAFT

unauthO/D.

There are quite a few 'Account Fees' however.

I can't believe in 6 years there are 'no' charges.

Is this plausible.?

Thanks in Advance.

Hi Renegade! I'm at a similar stage. Initially the charges were marked out with a row of asterisks above and below the Unauthorised Overdraft charge, but post 2000 they appear in the same format as normal transactions. I found it useful to hold a ruler over the statement, and pick each line out one by one. You will need a couple of hours each day for a couple of days to wade through - it took me about 5 days to assemble my list of charges!

If you have any statements that were originally sent, find any paid referrals/charges on those, then see if they are recorded teh same way on the copy statements they've just sent you. If they don't appear then taht means they are concealing charges, but even I can't believe they'd be so bloody stupid as to do that!

Couldn't see any Unpaid/returned payments listed, just the Paid Referral fee. Overdraft Interest is just listed as "Interest Charged" and will be listed on more-or-less the same day each month - for my account it was on or about the 10th of each month. It will only appear if you were overdrawn the previous month (Barclays calaculate the interest for the current month and charge it the next month).

The easiest way I found to do it was to go through looking for the bank charges first with the ruler using a highlighter in one colour, then doing a second pass looking at the "cleared for interest" column only (last column). If the amount went over my arranged overdraft figure I know that the next month I will need to look around teh 10th of the month to find the interest charge. I then marked the interest using a different colour of highlighter.

Make sure you note down dates and amounts as you go - either in a pad or directly in the spreadsheet.

It may also be useful to mark the relevant pages with those mini-post-its.
