1. In February this year, I called several Double Glazing companies, one of them being Safestyle Windows, to give me a quote for, you guessed it, new windows on the front of my house. Safestyle confirmed an appointment with me for the following weekend, saying that they would call 30 minutes before the appointment to make sure I hadn't changed my mind - a little strange I thought, seeing as when I make an appointment I always keep it. Anyway, the following weekend came and I received a phonecall from Safestyle in Coventry to check that I still wanted to keep my appointment to which I said yes. Ten minutes later, another phonecall, this time from Safestyle Birmingham, so I said yes I still want to keep my appointment and hadn't changed my mind in the last ten minutes and told them that I had already spoken to their Coventry office, to which they replied that I must be mistaken and they needed to check it out. About an hour later, I received another phone call saying sorry about the mix up, but unfortunately I had missed my slot and would I like to reschedule the following weekend, to which I said yes. The following weekend exactly the same happened again, but they did try and arrange an appointment for the following day this time. However, the next day I received a phone call saying that it wasn't possible to make it and can we now arrange an appointment the following weekend. Finally, fourth time lucky and someone eventually made it to my door. So after an initial quote of £5818 (remember I've now had time for all the other companies that I invited to quote to provide me with a quote) a phone call back to base and the quote is reduced immediately to £3800. Now I don't like these sort of tactics - why not quote me the £3800 in the first instance? Secondly the 'salesman' certainly took liberties with the truth during his presentation which I'm not sure he fully understood anyway. Part of my job (as a test engineer) involves material selection, so I know a little about grades of steel and one of the Safestyle salesmans lines was "our windows have galvanised steel reinforcement and galvanised steel is the best kind of steel that money can buy". At this point I offered that I would be more than happy with 17-4PH Stainless Steel reinforcement if it would do anything to help bring the price down to which he agreed to look into for me (17-4PH Stainless Steel would most likely cost around six times as much as galvanised steel which is essentially monkey metal dipped in zinc). He also claimed that I would see a 31 decibel noise reduction from Safestyle windows, to which I asked on which scale and at what distance are they measuring this on (unless a scale and distance is quoted then decibels on their own are meaningless). Anyway I thanked the salesman for his time and offered him out f my house, to which he then asked me for £60 to secure my quote. I told him that I would not be parting with any money today and I would contact Safestyle should I require their services to which he explained that he could not guarantee that I could get the quote down as low as £3800 again. Bearing in mind that I had already received 4 other quotes of which the most expensive was £3400, Safestyle weren't going to get a look in. So I spoke to Safestyle when they called later in the week and I told them 'thanks but no thanks' and here the real problem starts. They started to call me during the day whilst I was at work on a daily basis, I asked them if it possible that should they need to contact me please do it outside of office hours. Two weeks and seven mid afternoon phone calls later they finally got the hang of it and called me at around six in the evening. I tell them each time they ring that I did not want to take their quote any further and have now replaced my windows and am very happy with the company I have dealt with and the job that they did. It is now July, the windows were replaced in March yet Safestyle still insist on calling me at least two or three times a week and each time I ask them to take me off their dialling list, they agree but within the next couple of days I receive another phonecall from a telesales person who just doesn't hear the words 'No I'm not interested'. They seem to be very pushy, almost aggressive when I ask them not to call, speak over the top of me and not let me finish my sentences and never hang up. Quite often I hang up on them in the middle of them talking as they simply do not give the impression that they are listening to me. Does anyone know how I can get this awful company to stop bothering me. Safestyle Windows have provided me with the worst consumer experience I have ever had and do not seem to be willing to it. Please Safestyle Windows, just go away - I will never deal with you again.
2. I'm new to this and don't know if I have posted in the right place. Last year I had new doors and windows from Safestyle UK. The salesman persuaded me to take 12 months interest free credit arranged through Barclays Partner Finance with the advice to "pay it off or get a cheaper loan". There was no discussion about affordability and no income/expenditure assessment. My (then) partner assured me that he would pay the full amount before it came due. The payments are due to start in August. My "partner" has gone missing (with 20k of my money). I have tried to get another loan but because of my income I can't. Even adding it to my mortgage has been refused as I only have 5 years left so to add 7500 to it would be too expensive. I am now faced with paying 20% APR and my windows are going to cost me over 20K in the next 10 years. I can't afford the repayments and I'm thinking that I might have to sell the home I have worked so hard to keep.
3. Hi, My PVC windows have started leaking and i've had to remove the plaster etc to find the problem. Imagine my suprise when i saw this when i removed the plastic facia on the windows: These were installed by Safestyle around 4 years ago Do you think they will fix these if i contact them, or try and fob me off?
4. Recently went out for quotes for a number of windows to be replaced with UPVC double glazed. Safestyle were fastest in response and initially we were impressed with the salesman who visited. He did the - here's my quote but I may get a better price after talking to my boss etc etc. In the end we were quoted a price much lower than we had expected, nearly half the nearest competitor, so we agreed to proceed. We were then hit with the classic [problem] - I am since told by another company that it's well known in the trade but considered underhand by most, just as we were about to get the survey underway and pay our deposit, a phone call is made only to reveal that there had been a mistake and that the price should be 30% more than we had been quoted and agreed. Of course by then we had declined the competitors which of course was their intention. So we were presented with the choice - agree to the higher price or we can't proceed. Now this raises issues of good practice or even contract law, we had been offered and accepted the quote which was then raised by 30%. Obviously we said a few choice words and told safestyle to go away (although I didn't use those exact words). As predicted, we received phone calls insisting that they had made a mistake and that they could offer us a good price, but how could anyone possibly proceed with a company that behaves like this. We don't know what the fitting service and quality would have been like but based on the sales tactics we would have been mad to go ahead with a company that uses underhand sales tactics. Do not use this company. They are not trustworthy. If you do risk dealing with them, be warned that they will 'low ball' a price and then hike it when you are hooked. It's hooking and reeling in.
