Perhaps we should encourage people to take part in this excercise that ND are organising. EC's do need to be properly regulated. -
A major restructuring of the criminal legal aid system in England and Wales has been scrapped, Justice Secretary Michael Gove has confirmed. Mr Gove said he had "decided not to go ahead" with plans to cut duty solicitor contracts at police stations and magistrates' courts by two thirds. He also suspended for 12 months a second 8.75% cut in legal aid fees. Labour shadow justice secretary Lord Falconer said the government's plans had "descended into utter chaos". The proposed cuts - drawn up by former Justice Secretary Chris Grayling - would have reduced the number of legal aid contracts from 1,600 to 527. However, Mr Gove said there were "real problems" in pressing ahead with the proposals. BBC

Controversial plans to tighten rules on trade union strike ballots in Britain have passed their first Commons hurdle despite fierce Labour criticism. MPs backed the Trade Union Bill, which proposes higher voting thresholds for ballots, by 33 votes at second reading. Business Secretary Sajid Javid said the bill was "not a declaration of war" against unions but necessary to stop "endless" threats of industrial action. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-34241810 -
Check this one out, another instance of the law of (un)intended consequences, well it makes you wonder if the government want bailiffs to make more profit, as that is the obvious result of some of their reforms of Welfare Benefits, as more use will be made of Distress to collect the resulting increase in council tax arrears. http://news.sky.com/story/1094979/bailiff-boom-as-council-tax-benefit-cuts-bite looks like Capita, Equita, and Ross 'n Robbers and their ilk will be rubbing theit hands with glee at the prospect of all those fees they will rake in from people at their wits end, with no spare cash to pay their outrageous demands.
