  1. Yesterday in the House of Commons, Sir Greg Knight's Private Members Bill entitled: Parking (Code of Practice) Bill received its 2nd reading. The support that he received was overwhelming (and thoroughly deserved) and the Bill now passes to the Committee stage. Rougue private parking operators have cause for concern. Yesterdays debate is worthy of reading: https://www.theyworkforyou.com/debat...ailiff#g1160.0
  2. I am looking for some advice dealing with the DCA chasing after an alleged debt they say I had with Npower. I paid every month by direct debit and as far as I was concerned all paid off and sent the final meter reading on the day I moved out. I called them few months later and was told what the final bills was £36 and paid off. Now a DCA sending letters, but the company name is Npower Northern which I have never known. My bills had the name Npower and not Npower Northern. Have they changed names? How can there be an outstanding amount when paid by monthly direct debit ? I have read so many posts regarding their incorrect bills. I am going to call them today and send a SAR request and start the process from there. It is so unnecessary that we have to do this as when we pay every month and trust them to send correct bills.

  4. Hi all, I'll be brief. We moved into a new property a couple of months ago (we're renting), and the agency supplied to the EOn our gas and leccy meter readings. Last week we received the first bill with the estimate consumption and, we thought, it looked reasonable. We then checked the meter reading ourselves for the first time and... SHOCK! The meter reads 27***, while the starting reading (two months ago, bear in mind), shows 21***. From where the meter is placed, it's pretty hard to read the little digits displayed, and we think that the second digit (the "7") got read as a "1"... if you look at a digital display from the top at an angle it's pretty easy to confuse a 7 for a 1. Try it Anyway, looking at the previous estimate AND knowing that the property has used 27*** kWh of electricity in 7 years (when the meter was replaced and zeroed - there's a label on it), suggesting that on average it should not consume more than 3800 kWh PER YEAR, this seems to be a meter reading mistake through and through. My question for you all is... what are we supposed to do? We certainly don't want to pay 1200£ of leccy for a reading error! Thanks a lot Paolo
  5. Hopefully someone can help me find the best product. My Peugeot Partner decided the speedometer doesn't want to work. My mechanic has tried everything he can think of to get it working again. Refurbished ECU, Speed cable, Sender unit from gearbox but nothing. Is there any one on here who can tell me of any plug and play devices that will throw up the current speed I am doing?. needs to be a large enough display to see from the windscreen. Many thanks in advance
  6. Hi. In brief... I drove a car belonging to my wife and parked it in the free parking for customers car park at Vastern Ct in Reading. I left the site for literally 2 minutes then came back and bought a load of stuff at The Range, looked at some wines in Majestic (but didnt buy) and then bought some stuff in Aldi. When I got back, found ticket, was pretty cross, when I got home looked at the forums (which at the time were of the ignore until the NKD came through opinion). When the NKD did come through, we replied and told them that I was the driver at the time and not my wife. She then got a letter back from them saying her appeal had failed... and then came a slew of letters upping the ante at each stage, but all addressed to my wife. At the time, the relationship was somewhat rocky, so comms weren't great anyway. So I googled again ad came up with Parking Prankster who recommended an outfit called [removed] who for £16 would fight your case, or pay the fine guaranteed. I thought great! Paid up, thinking all dealt with, until many months later discovered that the company had collected the money, shut its doors and run... thanks! I had been done over And other expletives. the letters still came, the charge was now £160, and started coming from DRP now. Then there was a lull. After the big High Court case, and appeal, the letters started coming again, citing the High court appeals etc, which made my wife nervous. she wrote to DRP denying their claim ,and suggested they refer back to the first and only correspondence in the matter. She did not mention my name in that letter. Today, I received, in my name, a letter from DRP, demanding the £160. This has been going on for over a year - will have to dig the dates out - but it must be at least 14 / 15 months, and this is the first time they have written to the right person. Do I have any defence re time limits - given that they had my details all along? Any suggestions as to what route I should take? Many thanks
  7. Hi, I was driving back from London home to Somerset, and due to a long day pulled over to the service station to take a rest. I fell asleep in the car and stayed there for 3 hours 22 minutes. They have sent me a charge notice saying I was parked over and above the time allowed without payment and have sent an £80 charge notice for this. However, the notice has a photo of my car arriving, and my car leaving, but no photo of me actually being parked. Surely there is no actual evidence that I was ever parked in their car park, and that I could for all intents and purposes have been driving round the car park for 3 hours. Without an actual photo of me being parked on the land owned by MOTO, surely they cannot enforce this notice.
  8. I switched to OVO Energy around 3 months ago and gave them the reading at the time. I kept forgetting to give a meter reading so they used their own estimates based on a 1 bedroom flat. I recently got a letter to say they want to put my direct debit from £32 a month to £57 a month because I was £1.19 behind. Remember that everything is based entirely on their own estimates, so how have they came to this conclusion? Just to add, I gave them a reading recently which was much lower than their estimates. How can they justify putting my DD from £32 to £57? Anyone else had this happen before? P.S, just to add, NPower did the same thing and put my DD from £36 to £72 because they took the highest month usage and applied it to the whole of the next year.
  9. I apologise in advance for the length of this post. I moved into my property, a two bedroomed cottage, in october 03. The electric meter was the old dial type with spinning wheel. There is a three phase supply to the house but only one is connected to anything. After a year of normal electricity bills powergen came and fitted a digital meter. The next 4 quarterly bills were normal and paid on time. A couple of weeks after the last of these i received another bill for £2582 36. I contacted powergen straight away but the dispute ran for over a year during which time i spoke to dozens of powergen people. eventually they agreed that they had made a mistake, cancelled the bill and fitted another digital meter. exactly the same thing then occurred. I had 4 fairly normal quarterly bills, all paid on time then got another bill this time for£3100. This was in august 07. Since then I have spoke almost on a daily basis to various people at eon (as it is now called) They all agree something is wrong but i keep getting letters telling me i have made no attempt to resolve things. In january 08 I had to leave my mothers funeral following a call from a neighbour that i had burglers. I arrived home to find that people from eon had trampled through the floral tributes in the garden, broken down my front door, let my house cat out which was then run over, trampled mud all over my carpets but not done anything to the meter. I should add that i had no notice of their intended visit. The dispute is still unresolved, they fitted a check meter in parallel with the normal one but of course it read the same. In march this year they took the case to northampton court although i didnt receive the paperwork untill after the court date so couldnt attend. Naturally the court found in their favour. Have tried energy watch and onbudsman but they cant help as it has been to court The amount they are now claiming is in excess of £8000. In may this year i got a visit from a bailiff from an outfit calling themselves 'high court enforcement' I explained the situation and told them the dispute was very much ongoing. however, i am still using electricity so agreed to pay this bloke £500 and a standing order for £120 per month as a gesture of goodwill and to offset ongoing usage. He assured me that the full amount would go to eon but I have since found out this was a lie as they deduct a third of the money for themselves. These baliffs come back each month telling me that if i dont increase my payments they will forclose on my possessions. I should point out that i have solid fuel heating, all energy saving bulbs, no electric machinery. we creep about at night using solar lights from the garden as we darent switch anything on. I have had inspections done by independant electrical engineers who cant explain the high meter readings. One suggested that the meter and three phase supply were unbalanced as 2 phases arent connected to anything. They have measured my daily standing load to be an average of 3.6 amps. Eon estimate that my daily usage is 76.2 kwh. My wife is on tranqulisers over this, I am unwell, we are in our sixties and at our wits end. I have tried to get solicitors but nobody seems to want to take on eon and i probably couldnt afford it anyway. The only solution seems to let these bullies force me to sell my house to pay a bill that cant possibly be correct

  13. Hi, I thought I'd see what I can do about settling a joint ge money loan taken out approx 7 years ago. Unfortunately I've been reading posts on here and now think I'm in for a rough ride : I spoke with them last week and have a settlement figure of 4.5k although the original debt was only about 6k. I was actually hoping to be able to offer a reduced full and final settlement but from posts on here it seems highly unlikely. The loan was taken out jointly by my ex and myself. We split and had a couple of joint debts so we agreed to take one each, I'm stuck with this one. I have absolutely no idea what I can do or need to do to get this from around my neck. I haven't missed any payments, although they are usually a week or so late ( now a single parent) The account isn't in arrears ATM as I'm usually borrowing from my parents to make payments, a friend of mine has offered to help me clear it as it's going to take me about 30 years to settle otherwise. Any help or advice would be hugely appreciated x Thank you sooo much for reading Pjs girl x
  14. Well worth reading a must if you get a parking charge notice (PCN) http://www.shropshirestar.com/news/2015/01/22/could-parking-fines-issued-to-shropshire-drivers-be-illegal/ Main story from here http://www.scoop.it/t/lacef-news?page=3 I have also added now a parking guide from "WHICH"
  15. I recently had a new electricity meter replaced (at the request of nPower, our supplier) on the 10th April 2014. On the meter plus card the guy left it states: R (meter number) 39998 F (meter number) 04775 on the 9th July i submitted my reading online: 5247 On contacting nPower to find out my balance, she manually worked out the approx bill (39952 on 27th nov 2013) and based on the start reading on the card (04775 to 5247) This gives us an overall CREDIT of £700.00. She said it could be a few pounds either side, as it wouldn't be exact. On contacting them today, they have based on the bill on a start reading (on the new meter) of '0'. Is this right? Does the meter plus card hold any weight in respect of the readings? Is the reading on the card (marked F) the start reading of the new meter? nPower have passed it onto their 'back-office' which could take upto 28 days to resolve. but I was assured the manual reading was accurate (and certainly not out by £700) Please help with whatever advice you can please. Thanks James

  17. Hello there, I am new user here, I am seeking advises/helpful tips before I appeal to against PCN. What happened: On Saturday 23rd March 2013, at 19:01 (7:01pm), I was driving along Friar Street in Reading Town Centre to find restaurant place. I was taken into that route by Tom-tom Sat-nav (iPhone mobile version) to take me and 3 other passengers to that restaurant place in Friar Street from A33 northbound. When I got to entrance area, I braked and saw a not very clearly signs post (on the left side) as it wasn’t lit at that time, tried to work out to understand what is that sign trying to say and it took me a while to understand (as I am Cerebral Palsy user and got mobility problems) at the middle of square block. I managed to get picture of sign (red circle with car at bottom and motorbike above) wordings like ‘7am – 11am & 4pm – 7pm’. I looked at my car clock, it stated 19:01, I looked at rear mirror, there was a car driving behind me and felt I couldn’t stop my car otherwise car would hit me at rear therefore I had to continue driving down this street. While I was at that area, there was a few vehicles around which made me feel uncomfortable driving and something wasn’t quite right. Penalty Charge Notice Issued on 4th April 2013: On Friday 5th April 2013, I received Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) from Reading Borough Council saying my vehicle was ‘being in a bus lane’ at 18:59.54 on 23/03/2013. I felt that I wasn’t treat in correct ways by Reading Council and appeal to against this PCN due following points and by looking at photo/video evidences which supplied by Reading Council: - I was fined by 6 seconds early before 7pm (Council CCTV system timestamp). Who have the correct time? Council or me? - I even didn’t know that I was actually on the bus lane. Council placed incorrect signs displayed? - Left signs post wasn’t lit at that time which making me very hard to understand. Right signs post was lit but it too far to read. - Could not see ‘Bus Lane’ marker on the road in that time. On the photo, very clearly there was no ‘Bus Lane’ road marker and there was ‘Bus Stop’ road maker on the left hand side after traffic lights. - Could not see ‘CCTV’ signs around in that time. Even I didn’t know that I was actually monitored in this area. - Why my sat-nav Tom-tom didn’t detected this section as ‘bus lane’? It could be the following reasons (I will email to Tom-tom company to clarify): Maybe Tom-tom map haven’t updated that section? or Time of iPhone clock passed 7pm? or Reading Council didn’t inform the Sat-nav people? So, using these above information, is it worth for me to appeal this or not? as I felt I should do becuase there is no bus lane signs/road markers around that area? Thanks in advance Kindly regards
  18. In this clip the tv license guy, right near the end of it, reads the occupiers their rights. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CZtUaWy-3g How can that be right? He's a commissions agent working for a private company so how can he lawfully read someone their rights?
  19. First thread/post in this section - Had new meter fitted earlier in year after inheriting a day and night meter which was read the wrong way round for the first 18 after we moved in (Muppets). changed tariff at same time. Anyway - just rec'd a letter stating meter faulty - checked it and no numbers displayed on the meter. Coming to fit new one soon. What is the protocol for billing usage on occasions like this - inclined to press for bill to be scrapped. intend
  20. whilst visiting an Uncle I was waiting for him to arrive home and sat in the car and noticed an electric meter reader pointing a hand held device at some of the houses, he also had a video recorder. It was a genuine employee as his energy van was parked up - although a fair way up the road. He had a hi visibility tabard on too, which they usually don't. is this a new way of getting a reading? A bit odd, and he was definitely pointing into windows it was unmistakeable I was very close to him and could see everything. Anybody know what this might be?
  21. I've had a lot of problems with NPower recently but today they sent me a bill for the period from February to August. They sent me a letter a month or so ago apologising for the delay in sending the bill but they were having problems with the billing system. However they have the following readings showing on their online system for the day rate (the night ones look more reasonable) 24/01/2012, 6983, usage 0, submitted by NPower 07/02/2012 - 7000, usage 17, submitted by Customer 08/02/2012 - 7000, usage 0, submitted by NPower. 13/08/2012 - 8124, usage of 1124 units, submitted by NPower 24/10/2012 - 7240, usage of 99116 units submitted by NPower The current bill is only to August but is for 1124 units (8124 - 7000) when the actual usage is currently showing as around 7300. In reality there is a dodgy reading in there (8124) which is why the bill has gone up this quarter. The more recent reading of 7240 is more reasonable, but it seems NPower have interpreted this as the meter having "clocked" (gone back round) as it's lower than the previous value hence a usage of 99,116 units is now shown. So I'm not looking forward to the next bill which will include this. I suspect someone at NPower is just making up the readings, since the meter is inside and they've not read it in years (I get a card from Lowri Beck I think it is from time to time saying they tried to read it but I was out and when I get this I submit my own readings, but these don't appear on the NPower site). I tried to call their customer services line and got a recorded message that they are all on a training course and to ring back tomorrow (this was before their closing time of 8pm). I tried instead to get through to their complains department but having been in a queue for more than an hour without anyone answering the battery in my phone gave up.
