This is quite amusing, and also annoying. After the media just shafted the people of Scotland and god knows what kind of malpractice went on to stop Scotland leaving the UK, now locals councils are saying they are going to chase people for unpaid Poll Tax, based on people who only just signed the electoral register for the first time! Having a bit of a debate with people over whether they have 6 years or 20 years to take you to court over this. Can anyone confirm this? In any case it was abolished >20 years ago and I personally didn't pay a penny of it, which I am assuming means I also didn't acknowledge the debt. I think people need to be informed about this as they will likely send out threatening letters and some people might pay it not realising they don't have to, and there's nothing any council can do to force you to. Right?

Hello, I have recently changed my name via Deed Poll. I want to tackle my debts atm. I notified my bank so they will most likely amend my data with all the CRA. Do I need to notify any of my creditors/dcas? And how to be sending CCA/SAR requests as from now? Just print my new name or add in the text previous name?

Please help us by contributing to this poll. Only click "Vote now" when you have put in all three choices You should study it carefully and say what, in your experience, are your top three concerns. If you have not been visited by a bailiff, then I'd be grateful if you would just watch the progress of the poll but not contribute. If you feel that there is a concern which has not been identified in the poll, then please tell us about it in this thread. You will not be able to post in this thread unless you have taken part in the poll. If you are not taking part in the poll then please start a new thread to give us any other information you think we should know about. Thank you Only click "Vote now" when you have put in all three choices

Could someone please comment on this subject i found on my facebook page ....I was lead to believe that council tax and poll tax are both exempt from the statute of limitations , thank you ... IMPORTANT COUNCIL TAX INFO, SPREAD THE WORD PLEASE!!! I've had outstanding POLL TAX DEBT added to my council tax recently from the late 80's/ early 90's, Thatcher, strikes, riots.. what an era!! If you were around then this might affect you, if not you will know someone who is being affected by this.. It's a lot of money and times are hard, the council (in their wisdom) are trying to pull an UNLAWFUL move to suck more money out of already stretched pockets which pay their way and keep them in work (well, drinking tea and eating biscuits).. Luckily I had time to go in and question this outstanding debt and was amazed to find out it's from 23 years ago from the poll tax era.. The lovely wee girl in the council tax office asked if I could prove anything from that era which I can't so I told her I would check to see if this is lawful instead as they often seem to think they are above the law which they definately are not.. A legend in the Citizen's Advice bureau has assured me that this is STATUTE BARRED and is sending me a letter in the next few days quoting the legislation act and year, I will repost this as soon as I get it on here.. This means that if they are demanding you pay this now, it is not LAWFUL and you don't have to pay it.. PLEASE CHECK YOUR BILLS FOR EXTRA CHARGES ESPECIALLY IF YOU PAY BY DIRECT BEBIT THEY WILL AUTOMATICALLY ADJUST YOUR PAYMENTS AND TAKE IT IF YOU DON'T QUESTION WHY...
